Land preparation is very important for vegetable production because it creates favorable soil conditions for seed germination, root development, water infiltration, and nutrient availability.
1) Primary cultivation
Primary cultivation is the first major soil operation carried out to open up the land. It involves deep tillage to break hard soil layers, control weeds, and improve soil aeration. Common practices include ploughing and digging, which help loosen the soil and incorporate crop residues and organic matter.
2) Secondary cultivation
Secondary cultivation follows primary cultivation and involves shallow soil operations to refine the seedbed. Its purpose is to break soil clods, level the land, and create a fine, smooth seedbed suitable for vegetable planting. Practices include harrowing, raking, and bed shaping.

1) Qodista koowaad (Primary cultivation)
Qodista koowaad waa hawsha ugu horreysa ee weyn ee lagu sameeyo dhulka si loo furo loona diyaariyo. Waxay ku lug leedahay qodid qoto dheer oo lagu jebiyo carro adag, lagu xakameeyo haramaha, laguna wanaajiyo hawada ku jirta carrada. Tusaalooyinka hawlahan waxaa ka mid ah qodid iyo falid, kuwaas oo ka caawiya jilcinta carrada iyo dhex-gelinta haraaga dalagga iyo walxaha dabiiciga ah.
2) Qodista labaad (Secondary cultivation)
Qodista labaad waxay raacdaa qodista koowaad, waxaana lagu sameeyaa qodid fudud oo dusha ah si loo hagaajiyo sariirta beerista. Ujeeddadeedu waa in la jebiyo xabbadaha carrada, la simo dhulka, lana sameeyo carro jilicsan oo siman oo ku habboon beerista khudaarta. Hawlaha caanka ah waxaa ka mid ah harrow-gareyn, feerid (raking), iyo samaynta sariiraha beeraha.
