Just completed an in-depth review of excise tax systems, examining how governments structure and implement targeted consumption taxes on products such as to***co, alcohol, and fuel. The work analyzes rate design, revenue performance, and compliance frameworks, drawing on insights from multiple countries to identify effective practices. It highlights how excise taxation is not only a revenue tool, but also a strategic instrument for influencing behavior and addressing broader social costs.

We are pleased to share that MCG Associates, in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance Somalia, has officially held the kick-off meeting for the Excise Tax Regime Development Assignment, supported by the African Development Bank.

The assignment will support the Government of Somalia in developing a modern and effective Excise Tax Regime aimed at strengthening domestic revenue mobilization, improving fiscal sustainability, and enhancing the overall public financial management framework.
