Can FIFA actually replay Egypt’s World Cup match?

The Egyptian Football Association has filed an official complaint, arguing that two key incidents changed the outcome of Egypt’s Round of 16 match against Argentina:

• A goal disallowed after a VAR review.
• A penalty appeal involving Mohamed Salah that the EFA believes should have been awarded before Argentina’s winning goal.

History shows FIFA has taken extraordinary action before—but only in exceptional circumstances.

🇺🇿 Uzbekistan vs Bahrain (2005): FIFA ordered a replay after a referee incorrectly applied the Laws of the Game.

🇿🇦 South Africa vs Senegal (2017): FIFA ordered a replay after a referee was found guilty of match manipulation.

🇮🇪 Ireland vs France (2009): Despite Thierry Henry’s infamous handball, FIFA rejected Ireland’s request for a replay because refereeing decisions are generally considered final.

Now, all eyes are on FIFA’s response to Egypt’s complaint.
