Official Statement on the Leadership and Governance of Ruweng Administrative Area

To the People and Stakeholders of South Sudan,
With due respect and honor, I am writing to share a heartfelt message concerning the political direction and future of our region.
Every citizen of South Sudan possesses an inherent right to lead without unfair objections. We all hold an equal right to serve our people when the opportunity arises. However, when a leadership cycle is exhausted, forcing its continuation becomes dangerous for our collective progress.
Recent rumors regarding the potential reappointment of our former Chief Administrator, H.E. Stefano Wieu de Mialek (Raan bi Nyan Kaman Baai or Ruweng We want), have raised serious concerns. Reports indicate that certain individuals are proposing his return for a third term. Even under standard electoral frameworks, leaders are limited to two terms. We must ask ourselves: what has our governance become? Is it a kingdom, or a private business entity?
As an individual, Stefano Wieu de Mialek is a good man. However, as humans, we are all prone to errors, and his tenure was marked by severe structural failures. Most notably, his administration failed to protect our citizens. During his time in office, numerous people were killed by neighboring groups without intervention or rescue. Tragically, some victims were left unburied on their own land, exposed to scavengers.
There is no initiative he failed to accomplish in two terms that he could suddenly achieve in a third. While many of us bear no personal animosity toward him, his leadership style subjected our people to unprecedented hardships. Citizens were killed in Wunkur County and left without proper burials. Innocent lives were lost in Abiemnom Counties and at the Panrieng headquarters under his watch, yet no decisive action was taken.
Furthermore, nepotism deeply compromised his administration. Key government positions were overwhelmingly assigned to his family members, treating a public institution like a family enterprise.
Given these unspoken grievances and documented failures, H.E. Wieu deserves to rest with his family. Alternatively, he could be assigned a role within the national government, where he might succeed in a different institution. He has, however, exhausted his utility in the Ruweng Administrative Area. Our people are exhausted, suffering in silence out of fear, otherwise the nation would have heard the full extent of their grievances.
Ruweng possesses an abundance of capable individuals who can deliver superior results in security, infrastructure, and human development. It is deeply concerning that governance in Ruweng has been monopolized by a single family circle, repeatedly cycling between appointments and revocation. Who has bound Ruweng to this stagnant cycle? Why must one family dominate this office despite delivering negligible results to the public?
We have highly qualified, successful leaders ready to serve the people of Ruweng. It is time to give them a chance. Hon. Stefano Wieu may excel elsewhere, but his record in Ruweng is defined by discrimination, nepotism, and insecurity.
May the Almighty guide our leadership choices away from a regressive third term, and toward a prosperous, inclusive future for the Ruweng Administrative Area.
