I’ve been fascinated by geothermal since my university days, so much so that my graduation project for my Chemical Engineering degree was entirely focused on it. Even though my professional journey has taken me in a very different path, it’s always a real treat to revisit boreholes, cap rocks, and reservoirs whenever I get the chance. That’s why it was such an honor to be selected to interpret at the very first Latin American Geothermal Congress, held in San Salvador. Not only was it a historic milestone for geothermal cooperation in the region, but it also gave me the joy of reconnecting with familiar faces, including the brilliant Andy Blair!

Desde mis años universitarios he tenido un profundo interés en la geotermia, al punto que dediqué mi proyecto de graduación para obtener el título de Ingeniero Químico a este tema. Aunque mi trayectoria profesional ha tomado un rumbo muy distinto, siempre es un verdadero placer volver a reencontrarme con cabezales de pozo, rocas sello y reservorios (o yacimientos) cada vez que surge la oportunidad. Por eso fue un honor haber sido seleccionado para interpretar en el primer Congreso Latinoamericano de Geotermia, celebrado en San Salvador. No solo fue un hito histórico para la cooperación geotérmica en la región, sino también una gran alegría reencontrarme con caras conocidas, entre ellas la brillante Andy Blair.

What a way to wrap up a particularly eventful September!
I had the pleasure of representing in the 2025 edition of SEMAGIT with my presentation "‘Preloved’ terms: giving technical terminology a new life for a greener future."
Huge thanks to for being such gracious hosts and to everyone who attended. Your curiosity, questions, and comments turned the session into a truly lively and enriching conversation. I suspect the coffee tasting just before my talk may have helped keep everyone wide awake☕
It was also wonderful to spend time with and .escarra , two brilliant professionals and genuinely amazing people. Thank you, Erick Sosa, for sharing such valuable insights from outside the profession. Special thanks to , president of AGIT, for the invitation, and to for closing the day by moderating an inspiring discussion on the future of our profession.

¡Qué mejor manera de cerrar un mes de septiembre tan lleno de experiencias!
Tuve el placer de representar a en la edición 2025 del SEMAGIT con mi presentación “Términos ‘Preloved’: Una nueva vida para la terminología técnica ante un futuro más verde”.
Un enorme agradecimiento a por su cálida hospitalidad y a todas las personas que asistieron. Su curiosidad, preguntas y comentarios convirtieron la sesión en una conversación realmente dinámica y enriquecedora. It’s always such a joy to meet colleagues from around the world, talk shop and life, and realise how many of the same challenges and ambitions we share for the future. Over time, it’s also clear that this profession attracts some of the coolest, most genuine and down-to-earth people you could hope to meet. And sometimes, it even brings us together by the iconic Jet d’Eau in Lake Geneva. "Birds of a feather…"

Siempre es un verdadero gusto encontrarse con colegas de distintos países, intercambiar ideas sobre la profesión y la vida, y descubrir que compartimos muchos de los mismos retos y aspiraciones para el futuro. Con los años, también resulta cada vez más evidente que esta profesión atrae a algunas de las personas más geniales, auténticas y afables que uno pueda conocer. Y a veces, incluso nos reúne junto al emblemático Jet d’Eau en el lago de Ginebra. "Dios los cría..."

As Secretary of , it is with great pride that we can officially announce that we have been admitted as Members of the Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs (FIT). Being part of an association that belongs to the FIT means standing within a truly global community of interpreters and translators. It gives us stronger collective representation, access to international networks, professional development opportunities, and the ability to raise our voices together on issues that impact our profession worldwide. FIT has consultative NGO status with UN bodies such as WIPO, UNESCO and ECOSOC, which is why belonging to FIT strengthens our identity as professionals and ensures that our work is recognised, protected, and valued across borders.

Como secretario de , nos enorgullece anunciar oficialmente que hemos sido admitidos como miembros de la Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs (FIT). Formar parte de una asociación que pertenece a FIT significa integrarse a una verdadera comunidad global de intérpretes y traductores. At first there was nothing scary about staying at the Mizpah Hotel , one of the most haunted hotels in the United States. However, getting a flat tire while out in the desert and then a further two flat tires on the car that rescued us from being stranded in the desert does give off a certain “Mizpah Curse” vibe. Still, got the chance to look at the elusive Tiehm's Buckwheat and some cool rocks, as narrated by one of the top geologists in Utah.

Inicialmente no hubo nada de tenebroso al hospedarnos en el Mizpah Hotel, uno de los hoteles más embrujados de los Estados Unidos. Sin embargo, que se nos ponchara una llanta en el desierto, y luego que al vehículo que nos rescató de quedar varados en el desierto se le poncharan dos llantas, sí da una vibra como de “La Maldición de Mizpah”. De todas maneras, tuvimos la oportunidad de darle un vistazo al escurridizo trigo sarraceno y a algunas rocas interesantes, todo narrado por uno de los más reconocidos geólogos de Utah.

A couple of weeks ago, during the El Salvador leg of their tour, I had the honour of interpreting for the band “Call the Police”, led by The Police’s legendary guitar player Andy Summers. I got a quick chance to meet Andy, whom, as you can obviously tell, was equally as thrilled.

Hace un par de semanas, tuve el honor de interpretar para el grupo “Call the Police” durante la parada en El Salvador de su gira. El grupo es liderado por el legendario guitarrista de The Police, Andy Summers, a quien tuve la oportunidad de conocer. Como verán, él quedó igual de encantado por la experiencia.

Last semester, I had the privilege of teaching the course on Technical and Scientific translation at for those studying the Bachelor’s Degree on Translation and Interpretation in English. With the new semester currently underway, I would like to wish all fifth year students the best in this final stretch of their higher education. I’m looking forward to calling you colleagues soon!

El ciclo pasado tuve el privilegio de impartir el curso de Traducción Científica y Técnica en para los estudiantes de la Licenciatura en Traducción e Interpretación del Idioma Inglés. Con el nuevo ciclo ya en curso, me gustaría desearle a todos los estudiantes de quinto año todo lo mejor en este último tramo de su educación superior. ¡Espero con ansias poder llamarlos colegas dentro de poco!
