We are honored to welcome Adams as a featured speaker at Space Forum Africa 2026, July 28 - 31, in Lomé, Togo.

With more than 40 years of aerospace leadership, Mr. Adams recently retired from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration after an extraordinary career shaping some of humanity's most ambitious space exploration programs. As NASA's former Deputy Chief Technologist, he advised the NASA Administrator on the Agency's technology portfolio, influencing over $6 billion in annual technology investments while championing innovation across the organization.

Previously serving as Deputy Director of NASA's Planetary Science Division, Mr. Adams oversaw a $1.5 billion annual portfolio that included landmark missions such as Mars Science Laboratory (Curiosity), New Horizons to Pluto, DAWN to Vesta and Ceres, and MESSENGER to Mercury.

His leadership has also extended beyond NASA, contributing to the U.S. National Science and Technology Council's Strategic Computing Initiative, leading national assessments of Plutonium-238 production capabilities, and conducting numerous independent reviews of NASA's strategic capabilities.

A recipient of three NASA medals for outstanding service and leadership, Mr. Adams holds a B.S. in Physics and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering.

Why Space Technology Matters for Innovation, Defense, and Sustainability.

We are living in a time where technology is moving fast — propelled by artificial intelligence on all fronts. Space, as humanity's next frontier, holds a tremendous opportunity for all of us, both on Earth and beyond.

If we truly want to make the most of this opportunity, we must be intentional about how we create value across verticals that matter for people and our planet — transforming lives and protecting the environment.

Space Forum Africa 2026 will unlock high-level insights about innovation, defense, and sustainability.

1. Innovation: Space is like the engine of a locomotive, driving all other industries forward. We cannot talk about space without considering mechanical, civil, data, and electrical engineering, design. You name it. Space has always been, and is becoming an even more critical backbone of modern civilization, unlocking innovations and ripple effects far beyond exploration.

2. Defense: At last year's Space Forum Africa, we were struck by the level of engagement on defense and security panels. That alone is a testament to how people from all walks of life — government, military, civilians, and businesses — are concerned about security across Africa and eager to be part of the solution. This year, we are bringing deeper insights on how satellite technology can be effectively leveraged to unlock defense innovations that protect people and critical infrastructure.

3. Sustainability: Africa is undeniably the continent most affected by the negative impacts of climate change — yet the one that contributes least to global warming. This year, we are exploring how space technology is driving impact across climate intelligence, precision agriculture, disaster risk reduction, climate financing, and more.

Sustainability also extends beyond Earth. We'll be exploring space debris removal and collision avoidance — ensuring that space remains accessible for future generations of innovators and explorers.
