Geneva

The city of Geneva sits between beautiful snow-capped peaks at the point where the Rhône spills into Lake Geneva, which is Europe’s largest Alpine Lake, straddling the Swiss/French border.

This French-speaking “capital of peace” is the European seat of the UN, exuding a pleasing mixture of French joy de Vivre and Swiss structure. Between the promenades, parks, and gardens surrounding Lake Geneva, the old town is a lovely, historical spot perfect for strolling around.

Cultural attractions for those looking to include the Opera House and Grand Théâtre, which both stage international acts.

Tower Bridge

Tower Bridge is the grandest and most distinctive of the Thames River crossings, for this reason, it is often mistakenly called London Bridge.

Many visitors to the city presume the attractive and historic Tower Bridge, which appears often in movies and television shows, is the famous London Bridge from the nursery rhyme. London Bridge is in fact the next bridge along the river.

Nevertheless, Tower Bridge is a must-see landmark in the city and is very easy to find. It is close to major attractions including the Tower of London, St Katharine Docks and The Shard.

Cairns

For its tropical climate, easy-going ambiance and close proximity to the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns is one of Australia’s most popular vacation destinations. Located on the northwest corner of Australia, Cairns is a provincial but stylish city with a population of around 150,000 people.

The city is bordered by mountains and the Coral Sea and is surrounded by sugar cane plantations and rainforest. There are enough good bars, restaurants and shopping options to keep visitors entertained before they head off into the stunning nature nearby.

Instead of a beach, Cairns features a saltwater lagoon in the center of the city. The Cairns Esplanade along the shore is lined with trendy cafés, bars and boutiques. Numerous beaches are located just to the north of the city and are easily accessible by bus or car. The City Botanic Gardens features plants used by Aboriginal people. Opposite the gardens, a boardwalk leads visitors through the rainforest to the Centenary Lakes, a habitat for crocodiles.

Opportunities for adventure sports abound in Cairns and range from snorkeling and scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef to skydiving and whitewater rafting. The Daintree Rainforest to the north of Cairns is considered the world’s oldest tropical rainforest, and a hike along an aerial walkway over the forest is an experience that many visitors won’t want to miss.

Radio City Music Hall

Lying in the shadow of Rockefeller Center is Radio City Music Hall, a famous entertainment venue and a designated city landmark. This 1932 Art Deco theater offers musical extravaganzas and films and is the home of the dance company, The Rockettes.

The building was built and financed by the Rockefellers during the 1930s and contained the largest indoor theater in the world at the time. Today, the venue frequently hosts major events, including the Grammy Awards and Tony Awards. Its prominent marquee is hard to miss as it curves around the building and stretches down the block.

The Rhine Falls

Spanning 150 meters, the Rhine Falls (Rheinfall) at Schaffhausen are the largest falls in Central Europe. The best time to visit is during June and July when the mountain snow melts, and the falls swell in volume to spill over a 21-meter-high ledge of Jurassic limestone.

Boat trips up the Rhine provide excellent views of the falls, as do the viewing platforms on both sides of the river.
