Today, Thailand marks Asaha Bucha Day, one of the most important Buddhist holidays.

It commemorates the day the Buddha delivered his first sermon, introducing the Four Noble Truths and establishing the first Buddhist community.

Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati passed away on Thursday night at the age of 47, the Royal Household Bureau announced on Friday morning.

Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati has made significant contributions to Thailand through royal duties spanning public welfare, legal affairs, justice reform and support for vulnerable groups.

The Princess was born on December 7, 1978, as the eldest daughter of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsawali. She is also the first royal grandchild of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.

Her Royal Highness began her education at Rajini School, where she studied at kindergarten, primary and lower-secondary levels. She later attended Heathfield School in England and Chitralada School for her upper-secondary education.

The Princess graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Thammasat University in 2001, receiving second-class honours. She also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, with first-class honours, and became a barrister-at-law from the Thai Bar Association in 2004.
