68% of Printers move into Cross-Media Services

"Just" printing is already and will be even more very difficult. Integrating of pre-press and post-press into the basic Print Process has long been recognized by many Printers. However now, in the multimedia age all gets a totally new meaning. The key word is "cross-media". Printers no longer offer “just” Print; additionally they are generating and programming websites etc. May be in very short time App-programming or the production of moving image sequences are becoming part of Printer’s Services. But to what extent are such cross-media services offered already today? Well, in the Print-Drupa Nation Germany it looks (following a small rough Research by DD) as if 68% of Printers offer Cross-Media and 32% of Printers see themselves just as being still a “real” Printer. Print, IPEX 2014, Digital Media, Cross Media

It is presently not known how it is going on with Ipex 2014. Peter Hall (Managing Director of Informa Exhibitions, the organizers) declared after the cancellation of Canon only: "Ipex was for more than 100 years an integral part of the printing industry. This is why we do not want to damage the credibility of the brand." We will now discuss and consider with all stakeholders of IPEX 2014 with what ideas, insights and solutions support for today's printing and print media entrepreneurs can be strengthened and how Print Media (as part of) the marketing mix can be supported. Following those talks, the organizer will make a statement on the future and orientation of Ipex as a Print and Print Media Exhibition. After Agfa, Xerox, Kodak, HP, Heidelberg, KBA, ManRoland Sheetfed and Landa, have been announcing their cancellations in recent months, IPEX decided in January to shorten the Show by four days to six days only and to reorient the Show’s content. Implementation is 20 times more difficult! How to implement?

The Implementation of any idea, strategy or plan you have in mind or you have developed is always very difficult. In fact 20 times more difficult as setting up the idea, strategy or plan itself. This is what US-Research found out and this is why bright ideas, strategies or plans are often never implemented, early abandoned or stopped altogether because of Company internal resistance. As a result Companies do not reap the benefits they could get e.g. a Productivity Increase of 30% or a Sales Increase because of a new Marketing Strategy etc. Often such opportunities do not materialize although they are well planned. What we understand is, the critical factor of all ideas, strategies or plans is Implementation. Many Experts say the Effectiveness of Company Ownership or Company Management depends very much on the Effectiveness of the Secretary. If so, we have a problem as there is no Secretary Education or Secretary Training available. However the tasks, obligations and responsibilities a Secretary is involved in are comprehensive and complex. When talking and being engaged with our IPB tasks at Company sites we easily can see and hear, Secretaries are very much missing the Chance to improve for the benefit of their Boss and the Company’s benefit. Watch Your Equipment !

Electronic Media are step by step eating up Printer’s Market Share and everyone knows, Print as a one stop product is slowly substituted by a Multi-Media Service Platform. In some time to come, Printers will even choose to become Communication Providers. Also, Printers (Packaging Companies less, but as well) are struggling on price, quality and delivery issues. And this being the case, we also have to acknowledge the AEC-Market, similar as a Free Trade Zone, has not even arrived yet. Still the AEC will change the Printing Landscape tremendously as AEC not only offers New Opportunities but parallel New Threats. Printers from other AEC-Countries will enter Thailand to sell their One Stop Print Product on very competitive prices.

Increasing of Productivity is one of the most critical goals in Business. Unfortunately, it’s a fact seldom accepted. Knowledge about “how to increase productivity” is fairly limited and training tools are often chosen via the lowest-cost provider with minimal consideration about which provider would actually be the most effective. Management (in most cases) is more concerned with executing day to day transactions instead of productivity solutions. But no question, Increasing Productivity means Staff are increasing their efficiency. Productivity can increase on various platforms, but one issue is always true: Productivity Increase must be wanted. Productivity Increase “never” happens by itself ! Implementation of new Opportunities

No doubt we are living in a changing world. One needs to think about the Minimum Wage rise, the upcoming AEC-Markets offering big Opportunities but also big Threats, the Euro Crisis, the Japanese Economy, the risks of the US-Fiscal Cliff, the Arab Spring etc. To steer through all those occurrences Companies have to implement New Ideas, New Procedures, New Processes to win the Opportunities embedded in those Occurrences. Change is required. But what Change? And how to “implement”? Until recently Staff has been trained to do one job, one task or one activity. Mostly the job even has been and still is the Staff’s “career”. However all of this has changed in our global-village-world which is short of time and even shorter of talent. In our today’s reality jobs and responsibilities are changing as fast as a Company moves up or down. Until recently Staff was quite well trained as jobs and responsibilities were clear. But today it is far more about learning and its continual process. To master “Change” Staff has to be able to learn continuously which has a lot to do with:

• The accelerating Rate of Change in Markets, Products, Competition and Costs
• The resulting Organizational Adaptation and Transformation which is required and the
• Mismatch Between Education + the Business Needs leading to new Change approaches
