The AIT SUPOT (Sustainability Positioning Taskforce) met on 28 August 2026 to mark the completion of the AIT Sustainability Report 2025.

We extend our sincere thanks to SUPOT members and the wider AIT community for contributing valuable materials and insights to the report. The report is now nearing finalization and is undergoing galley proofing.

This milestone also marks the conclusion of Dr. Takuji W. Tsusaka’s tenure as Chair of the taskforce. Dr. Anish Ghimire is taking over as Chairperson effective 1 September 2026.

Under its new leadership, AIT SUPOT will soon begin preparations for the next cycle of the THE (Times Higher Education) Sustainability Impact Ratings.

Let us continue working together toward a more sustainable future.

Learning from Forests, Communities & Conservation

From 20–24 August 2026, the AIT Natural Resources Management (NRM) Program at the Faculty of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources - FFANR, AIT , together with Kyushu University, Japan, conducted a five-day joint field training and preparatory survey in Thailand.

As part of a JSPS-funded research project, the team explored Protected Area management and Community Forests as potential OECM sites, while training students and researchers in field-based research methods.

The experience brought together faculty and graduate students from AIT_NRM, Kyushu University, and Kasetsart University, providing valuable opportunities to learn directly from protected-area officials, local communities, and conservation practitioners.

Beyond collecting data, the field training was about observing, listening, questioning, and learning, strengthening research approaches and building knowledge for more effective and community-centered forest conservation.

We sincerely thank the Royal Forest Department, protected-area personnel, Community Forest leaders, and local communities for their generous support and valuable insights.

Day 2 Field work for Regional Research Project on Protected Areas and Community Forest Evaluating using METT 🌱🌱🌱

We are so excited for this one! 🌿✨🌱🌈 🌿✨

📌 1. Hup Pa Tat (หุบป่าตาด)
A Hidden Prehistoric World: Step into a limestone hill ecosystem tucked inside a hidden valley, completely dominated by ancient Sugar Palms (ต้นตาด).
The Dramatic Sugar Palm: Once this tree fruits, the entire tree slowly dies! Wildlife helps spread its seeds, and the fruit becomes the sweet Thai dessert favorite, Look Chit (ลูกชิด).
Rare Wildlife Spotting: Keep your eyes peeled for the "Shocking Pink Dragon Millipede" (Desmoxytes purpurosea), an endemic insect species found only here!
Strangler Figs: Check out these parasitic canopy trees that slowly drop heavy roots down to wrap around their hosts and hit the soil.

📌 2. 400-Year-Old Giant Honey Bee Tree (Tapang Tree)
A True Giant: Marvel at Thailand’s largest buttress tree root system.
Sacred Conservation: Protected for generations through a beautiful mix of local spiritual belief and community-led conservation.

📌 3. Wat Tham Khao Wong (วัดถ้ำเขาวง)
Rich History: Built over 30 years ago during Thailand's timber concession era, this gorgeous wooden temple sits on a former logging site.
Sacred Legacy: Hand-built with incredible dedication by the monk pictured here!🌱🌈
