เส้นไหมรูไทล์ (Rutile) เรียงตัวเป็นชั้นๆ ตามโครงสร้างผลึกของแร่คอรันดัม (Corundum) ตัดกันอย่างเป็นระเบียบตามแนวแกนแสง (c-axis) แต่กลับเว้นช่องว่างรูปหกเหลี่ยมตรงกลางไว้ได้อย่างสมบูรณ์แบบ (Hexagonal void)
