Dinso Resort & Villas Koh Chang

Before becoming Dinso Resort & Villas Ko Chang, the site was known as Emerald Cove Resort. Rather than starting anew, VV Desine began by understanding what already existed—not only what could be retained but what still held value.
The design process focused on two fundamental resources embedded within the site: space and material. Existing circulation patterns and spatial relationships were reimagined to create a more intuitive guest journey while the landscape became the framework connecting new experiences throughout the resort.
Equally important was the site's material legacy. Timber, steel, stonework, decorative elements and mature planting were carefully catalogued and reassembled through an upcycling-led approach. Nearly 80% of the landscape resources were retained and repurposed, significantly reducing construction waste, embodied carbon, transportation impacts and overall construction costs. The remaining materials were sourced locally and responsibly to complete the design. On an island where every imported material carries environmental and economic costs, adaptive reuse became both a design opportunity and a responsible strategy.
Inspired by the spirit of island living, the landscape embraces a handcrafted approach, imagining a place shaped by people using the resources available around them. Weathered timber, reclaimed steel, natural stone, and tropical planting celebrate the raw beauty and authenticity of Koh Chang.
The result is a regeneration rather than a replacement. Through adaptive reuse, circular design, and thoughtful stewardship of resources, the former Emerald Cove has evolved into a destination that reflects the true spirit of the island while demonstrating that meaningful luxury can be created through transformation rather than consumption.
