เดือนเมษายนเคยเป็นเดือนที่สองของปี ก่อนถูกเลื่อนมาเป็นเดือนที่สี่!
ตำนานเล่าว่า โรมูลัส ผู้ก่อตั้งกรุงโรม ได้สร้างปฏิทินโรมันขึ้นราวศตวรรษที่ 8 ก่อนคริสตกาล โดยเริ่มนับปีจากเดือนมีนาคม (ตามชื่อเทพเจ้าแห่งสงคราม Mars) ทำให้เดือนเมษายนกลายเป็นเดือนที่สอง แต่ปฏิทินยุคแรกนี้ขาดไปกว่า 60 วัน!
ต่อมา นูมา ปอมปิลิอุส กษัตริย์โรมันในตำนานจึงเพิ่มเดือนใหม่อีกสองเดือน คือ มกราคมและกุมภาพันธ์ และย้ายไปไว้ต้นปี ผลลัพธ์คือเดือนเมษายนถูกเลื่อนมาเป็นเดือนที่สี่อย่างที่เราใช้กันทุกวันนี้

Did you know April used to be the second month of the year?
Back in ancient Rome, the calendar looked very different from the one we use today. According to legend, Romulus—the founder of Rome—created a 10‑month calendar around the 8th century BCE. The year began in March, named after Mars, the god of war. That meant April was actually the second month of the year.
The problem? Romulus’ calendar was about 60 days too short. Later, King Numa Pompilius stepped in and added two new months—January and February—placing them at the start of the year. With that change, April shifted down the line and became the fourth month, just as we know it today.
