"แม่ข่า" สายน้ำที่ปกป้องเมืองเชียงใหม่

ลำน้ำแม่ข่าไม่ใช่เพียงสายน้ำโบราณ หากแต่เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของภูมิทัศน์และประวัติศาสตร์ของเมืองเชียงใหม่

ลำน้ำแม่ข่ามีบทบาททั้งในฐานะแหล่งน้ำ และเป็นแนวป้องกันทางธรรมชาติร่วมกับกำแพงเมืองชั้นนอกที่ทอดตัวโอบล้อมเมืองทางด้านตะวันออกและด้านใต้

นอกจากนั้นยังคอยรับน้ำหลากจากดอยสุเทพและระบายน้ำส่วนเกิน ป้องกันเมืองจากการเกิดน้ำท่วม ซึ่งเป็นหัวใจสำคัญของระบบจัดการน้ำและการป้องกันเมืองตั้งแต่สมัยโบราณ

แม่ข่าจึงมีความสำคัญกับการดำรงอยู่ของเมืองเชียงใหม่ตลอดหลายศตวรรษที่ผ่านมาจวบจนปัจจุบัน

The Waterway That Protected Chiang Mai

Forms an enduring part of Chiang Mai’s landscape and history, The Mae Kha waterway served as a water source and a natural defensive boundary alongside the outer city wall, which curved around the eastern and southern sides of the city.

By receiving runoff from Doi Suthep and carrying away excess water, Mae Kha also helped protect the city from flooding. These functions made it an essential part of Chiang Mai’s historic water management and defense systems.

For centuries, it has sustained the life of Chiang Mai, and it remains an important part of the city today.
