The words "Career" and "Entrepreneur" are rarely mentioned in the same sentence.
Why is that?
Well, I'd argue that it comes down to one 4 letter word called RISK.
By definition, risk is exposure to danger and well...that about sums up entrepreneurship.
Career means to dedicate some meaningful period of time to a certain discipline or trade.
BUT...
Due to the exorbitant amount of risk commonly found in the act of entrepreneurship, most of us never statistically make it for any meaningful period of time.
This disables us from talking about or thinking about our activities as a career.
Think about this...
Doctors, accountants, mechanics, software developers, politicians, and many other professions have a clear roadmap to career advancement.
Entrepreneurs don't.
This is dangerous because we are oftentimes aimlessly wandering and even if we're profitable we don't always have direction on the next step and the big picture.
We believe that risk can be mitigated and the entrepreneurial career path can be codified.
It just starts with the ability to foresee what lies ahead in the future.
That is why we've created e5 framework, a scientifically sustainable roadmap to self-employment rooted in traditional economics.
By using the framework, an entrepreneurial person can easily understand the following aspects of their career including:
Ecosystem - Who are all of the players and how do they contribute?
Relationships - How can I better understand the mindset of people in my stage and others?
Location - Where am I located in the ecosystem and what does that mean?
Destination - What stage would I like to move into and what will that require of me?
Planning - Which business vehicle will give me the best chance to safely transition to my new stage?
Additionally, the framework is universal and can provide significant value to entrepreneurial people of all stages from unemployment to existing career entrepreneurs and everyone in between.
The framework is broken into six stages, each divided by one universal concept - RISK.
e5 purposely omits unpredictable variables including business type, income levels, and industry.
Instead, we focus on the individual first, layering the stage progression by the financial and time risk they are personally taking.
A brief snapshot of the framework's stages are below:
Stage 0 - Unemployed
Stage 1 - Employed Advocated
Stage 2 - Entrepreneurial Employee
Stage 3 - Self Employed
Stage 4 - Entrepreneur
Stage 5 - Career Entrepreneur
I hope this helps to give you a better understanding of the career progression for entrepreneurs.
