Dear friends,
Once again it is the month of taxation and we all are busy calculating the income tax for this year. We all sincerely pay the tax and contribute in the building of our Nation. Some part of our tax is also used for the upliftment of the underprivileged people. Though the government does its part through the tax paid by us, it is not sufficient. We as individuals too can contribute to this noble cause.
By God’s grace we all are a privileged lot who can give our parents and children all the luxuries of life. We can take good care of our parents and children; give them good education, food and a good house to live in. Many a times we spend a lot of money just for the sake of entertainment like watching movies in multiplexes, enjoying rides in amusement parks, buffets in a posh restaurant etc. Some of us even spend a lot of money on chewing or drinking things we should’nt. We never mind buying a popcorn cup for Rs 100/- in a multiplex which costs just Rs 10/- outside the venue or spending thousands of rupees on alcoholic drinks in a party.
Friends, just think what is the value of one rupee today? Hardly anything, isn’t it? Even a ‘cutting chai’ costs us Rs 5 to 6 now a days. Even if each one of us can contribute Re 1 per day it would mean we can contribute Rs 365/- per year per head. Is it really heavy on our pockets? Are we so incapable of not being able to spend this petty amount, that too for a noble cause?
A group of few of us can really build up a substantial amount. Each group can prepare a list of orphanages or old-age homes and the individual donors can decide to which place his/her contribution must go as per their choice. This way the amount collected for each orphanage or old-age home can be donated to that place which will definitely lighten up a lamp of hope in the lives of the underprivileged.
Just like we pay the income tax to the government, we can call this as a “SELF SOCIAL TAX”, a tax paid by us considering that it is our social responsibility towards our unfortunate fellow human beings. Our small contribution may be of great value to someone. So friends if you agree, let’s go ahead, join our hands together, form groups (offices, schools, colleges, clubs …) and realize our social responsibilities and experience the joy of giving. Perhaps you will be more happy by giving Re 1 per day than you would have been by receiving thousands of rupees per day.
Say yes to “SELF SOCIAL TAX”, you will surely be rewarded with a million dollar smile on a child’s face or an elderly.
