Not long ago, we spoke confidently about the limits of AI in translation. Today, that confidence feels… outdated.
AI is faster. Scalable. Sometimes impressively fluent. So the question keeps coming back: are translators becoming obsolete? HOWEVER, that question misses the point! 👇
Translation isn’t about matching words, it’s about inhabiting a language its silences, its tensions, its cultural weight, its unspoken meaning.
Can a machine truly grasp irony? Feel what sits behind a neutral sentence? Choose a word because it is right, not just correct?
Don't know...specialists say AI may soon analyze (even anticipate) emotions and intent. 😳😵
BUT analysis isn’t experience. Simulation isn’t understanding.
And while the technology evolves, another issue remains:
the persistent misunderstanding of what translation really is...
