Westerwelle Startup Haus Tunis Empowering the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Tunis | Co-working | Capacity Building | Community 🌎 We empower entrepreneurs in Tunisia and across borders.

Westerwelle Startup Haus Tunis is part of the global Westerwelle Foundation, which was founded in 2013 by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Guido Westerwelle and entrepreneur Ralph Dommermuth. At its core the Westerwelle Foundation aims at creating opportunities for young people in emerging countries and strengthening local entrepreneurship ecosystems. How do we do this? Through our startup hubs and support programmes. We currently have four startup hubs in Africa: Tunisia, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Kenya. Each Westerwelle Startup Haus offers co-working, capacity building and access to the local startup community. Our programmes support startups all the way from ideation to international acceleration. Programmes at Westerwelle Startup Haus Tunis have focused for example on supporting social entrepreneurship, women entrepreneurs, and facilitating international expansion across Africa for Tunisian startups.

Planning the next steps of WSH Tunis 🛫

First weeks of Mayssa on board. Westerwelle Foundation Managing Director Paul Steffens visiting from the Germany HQ.

We've spent time getting to know each other and laying the foundation for new programmes to come both in Tunis, as well as our other hubs in Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, and soon Ghana.

At the centre of everything is designing programmes that enable young entrepreneurs across Africa to move from zero to launch and fast growth.

Lots of ideas and work behind the scenes. We're cooking and can't wait to share more soon.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Thando Mazomba, Venture Development Manager at OceanHub Africa, to the Haus.

Ocean Hub Africa works to turn ocean focused innovation into real, scalable impact by bringing startups, ecosystem support, and investment closer together. Through entrepreneurship, they aim to help shape a Blue Economy that creates opportunities for people while protecting the future of our oceans 🪼

Thando’s visit was a chance to bring that mission a little closer to Tunisia meeting our team and community, getting a feel for the Tunisian entrepreneurial ecosystem, and learning more about the opportunities emerging within Tunisia’s growing Blue Economy.

But more importantly, we got to talk about what could come next: what future collaborations and partnerships between our ecosystems could look like.

A new chapter begins at Westerwelle Startup Haus Tunis ✨

We’re very happy to welcome Mayssa Mrabet as our new Country Director.

With nearly 20 years of experience across entrepreneurship, innovation, startup support, and ecosystem building in Tunisia, Africa, and the MENA region, Mayssa brings not only strong expertise, but also a deep understanding of the people and communities behind every entrepreneurial journey.

After experiences with organizations such as Impact Partner, Afkar, AfriLabs and Qatar Development Bank, she now brings that journey back to Tunisia and to the Haus.

At WSHT, Mayssa will help strengthen the support we offer to entrepreneurs and build even stronger connections between Tunisian startups and regional and international ecosystems.
