Today marks 22 years since Mum died.
22 years and not a day has gone by that I haven’t thought about her. Not one. And not a day goes by that I don’t think how blessed I was to spend my first 29 years of my life with her.
People tell you the pain of losing a parent fades. It doesn’t. It just becomes second nature. You learn to carry it along with everything else and most days you carry it well and then something small catches you.
Mum was a character, always telling you the truth, even when you didn’t want it ha! But also championing you even when you didn’t expect. Such fond memories of her cooking and singing ‘Breaking Up is Hard to Do’ at the top of her lungs.
She made me who I am. Everything I know about standing on my own two feet, about doing the honest thing rather than the easy one, came from her. She is in every decision I make in my business and in my life and she always will be.
In September we are all here in Turkey together for my niece Amy’s wedding and a 2-week family celebration together. I hope she is with us for it. I think she will be.
I miss her terribly. And I would not trade a single one of those 29 years. 🩷
