🌍💙 International Day of Persons with Disabilities | Dec 3, 2025

Today feels especially meaningful. For the past year, my husband and I have been working closely with the amputee football team we started in Mardin, Turkey — building something rooted in inclusion, courage, and community.

Turquoise and Love has been quiet, not because we disappeared, but because we stepped fully into doing the work: supporting our players, learning from the disability community here, and making sure everyone around us could truly speak the language of inclusion.

And today, on this important day, we’re happy to reconnect and share a quiet relaunch of Turquoise and Love.
This next chapter is shaped by everything Mardin has taught us and by our growing mission in disability inclusion and coaching.

Turquoise and Love Co-Founder Sebrina with the Pontiac-Kusatsu Sister City Club.

Sebrina has traveled to Japan, Mozambique and South Africa for projects on Democracy and Education with Wayne State University’s Center for Peace and Conflict Studies.

Co-Founder Raycene earned her Peace and Conflict Certification from the Center, completing her Peace Practicum in Beirut focusing on Migrant Workers’ Rights and Sectarian Conflict.

Fun-fact: Sebrina and Raycene are both alumna of Wayne State University as well as Tuskegee University. They met in the late 1980s when Sebrina became Raycene’s mom 😉

We highly recommend watching this film!

It showcases the life of Barış Telli, a public figure and amputee soccer player from Türkiye.

Fun Fact: Our lead disability consultant played in the Turkish Amputee Super League as well!

What we loved: The spotlight on amputee football and an emphasis on lived experience.

What could’ve been better: We wanted to see more lead actors with disabilities. The lead actor is not an amputee.

What are your thoughts on able bodied actors playing characters with disabilities?
