Understanding Incoterms in International Trade

Incoterms help buyers and sellers clarify:

• Who arranges transportation
• Who pays specific logistics costs
• Who handles export and import procedures
• Where delivery takes place
• When the risk of loss or damage transfers

Selecting the wrong Incoterm can create unexpected freight charges, customs complications, insurance gaps, and disputes between the parties.

It is also important to understand that Incoterms do not determine ownership, payment terms, product specifications, or remedies for breach of contract. These matters must be addressed separately in the commercial agreement.

The chosen rule should always include the exact named port or place, for example:

FCA Istanbul, Türkiye, Incoterms 2020
CIF Port of Destination, Incoterms 2020

Clear delivery terms support better planning, stronger documentation, and more reliable transaction ex*****on.

Exporting Isn’t Complicated, It Requires a Structured Process.

Many businesses believe exporting is complex. In reality, successful international trade depends on following a well-planned process, maintaining accurate documentation, and coordinating every stage from purchase order to final delivery.

A professional export workflow typically includes:

• Receive and review the export order
• Issue the Proforma Invoice
• Confirm commercial terms and payment conditions
• Manufacture or source the goods
• Perform quality inspection
• Complete packing and labeling
• Prepare export documentation
• Book cargo with the shipping line or airline
• Complete export customs clearance
• Load the cargo for shipment
• Dispatch the shipment
• Issue the Bill of Lading or Air Waybill
• Receive payment according to the agreed terms
• Complete import customs clearance
• Deliver the goods to the final buyer

Every stage has a direct impact on:

• Delivery schedules
• Regulatory compliance
• Cost control
• Risk mitigation
• Customer satisfaction
• Long-term business relationships

Successful exporters know that international trade is not driven by luck. It is built on preparation, documentation, operational discipline, and reliable ex*****on.

At Golden Falcon International, we support businesses in developing efficient international trade operations through structured documentation, strategic coordination, and reliable commercial processes.

OIL TANKER SHIP CLASSES

Understanding the Vessels That Keep Global Energy Moving

Global energy trade depends on selecting the right vessel, not simply the largest one.

Each tanker class is designed to meet specific operational, commercial, and logistical requirements. Choosing the appropriate vessel influences transportation costs, route accessibility, cargo efficiency, delivery schedules, and overall supply chain performance.

The six principal tanker classes include:

• ULCC (Ultra Large Crude Carrier)
• VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier)
• Suezmax
• Aframax
• Panamax
• Small & Product Tankers

Each serves a unique role based on cargo volume, destination, port infrastructure, draft limitations, and voyage economics.

Successful crude oil transportation requires careful evaluation of multiple factors, including:

• Cargo specifications and volume
• Loading and discharge terminal capabilities
• Canal and draft restrictions
• Freight market conditions
• Voyage distance and bunker consumption
• Demurrage exposure
• Regulatory compliance and insurance requirements
• Operational and commercial risk management

In today’s international energy markets, vessel selection is far more than a shipping decision. It is a strategic component of efficient logistics, cost optimization, and successful trade ex*****on.

At Golden Falcon International, we believe that successful international trade begins with informed decisions, structured documentation, and reliable coordination across every stage of the supply chain.

Global Trade. Strategic Finance. International Projects.

Why Do Ships Wait Outside Ports Even After They Arrive?

Many assume that a vessel begins unloading as soon as it reaches the port. In reality, arrival is only one stage of the logistics journey. A ship may still wait hours or even days before berthing, depending on operational, regulatory, and environmental factors.

The most common reasons include:

• Limited berth availability due to port congestion.
• Customs inspections and regulatory clearance procedures.
• Cargo handling schedules and terminal capacity.
• Weather and tidal restrictions affecting safe operations.
• Coordination between shipping lines, terminals, customs authorities, and logistics providers.

Every hour of delay can increase operational costs, postpone deliveries, disrupt supply chains, and impact customer commitments.

Successful international trade is built on more than transportation. It depends on accurate planning, strong coordination, document compliance, and efficient communication between every stakeholder in the supply chain.

At Golden Falcon International, we believe that every successful shipment begins long before a vessel reaches the port, and ends only when the cargo is delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance.

Using an SBLC in Project Financing

An SBLC may sometimes be accepted by a lender as credit support or part of a collateral structure, but it does not automatically produce a loan.

Every proposed transaction must be independently reviewed based on:

• The issuing bank
• The SBLC wording and authenticity
• The borrower’s repayment capacity
• The underlying project and cash flow
• Legal enforceability
• Compliance and sanctions screening
• The lender’s own credit policy

There is no universal rule guaranteeing financing at a fixed percentage of the SBLC face value.

A SWIFT MT760 confirms the transmission of a banking undertaking. It does not confirm that a lender has approved funding.

Businesses should also be cautious when asked to pay advance fees to attorneys, intermediaries, or designated accounts before receiving independently verified banking and legal documentation.

An SBLC can support financing only when the lender accepts it after full underwriting and due diligence.

What is a Letter of Credit?

A Letter of Credit, LC, is an undertaking issued by a bank at the buyer’s request in favor of the seller.

The bank honors the LC when the seller presents documents that comply with its terms and conditions within the required time.

The process normally includes:

• Commercial contract agreed
• Buyer requests the LC
• Issuing bank opens the LC
• Advising bank authenticates and advises it
• Seller ships the goods
• Required documents are presented
• Banks examine the documents
• Payment or deferred settlement occurs according to the LC terms

An important principle:

Banks examine documents, not the physical goods.

Letters of Credit can support payment security and structured international trade, but they require accurate wording, realistic document requirements, and disciplined preparation.

Even a small documentary discrepancy can delay payment or result in refusal.

Trade finance is more than arranging an LC or obtaining bank funding.

The real challenge is coordinating the contract, shipment, documents, payment terms, banking requirements, and operational deadlines.

When documents are incomplete or inconsistent, payment may be delayed and the transaction may face additional costs.

A professional process requires:

• Clear commercial terms
• Accurate shipping documents
• Proper presentation under the agreed instrument
• Coordination between finance, logistics, procurement, and banks
• Early identification of documentary discrepancies
• Clear settlement and repayment planning

Banks generally examine documents, not the physical goods. The exact payment outcome depends on the instrument wording and whether the required presentation complies with its terms.

Strong trade finance ex*****on begins with structured documentation and coordination before shipment.

Different banking needs require different banking partners.

Companies do not usually rely on one bank for everything.

Depending on the business need, they may work with:

* Global banks
* Regional banks
* Local banks
* State-owned or development-linked banks
* Investment banks
* Banks with trade finance capabilities
* Correspondent banking networks for international payment support

Each plays a different role.

Some support daily operations.
Some support trade finance.
Some help with strategic funding or advisory.
Others are important for cross-border payment routing and international access.

The main lesson is that banking structure matters.

A stronger business is often supported by a stronger banking ecosystem, built on clear documentation, compliance readiness, and the right choice of banking partner for each need.

What is a Performance Bond?

A Performance Bond helps protect a buyer against defined non-performance by a seller, supplier or contractor.

It is normally issued by a bank or acceptable guarantor at the seller’s request and in favor of the buyer. If the seller fails to meet the covered contractual obligations, the buyer may submit a claim, subject to the wording and conditions of the bond.

The usual process is:

• Commercial contract signed
• Performance security required
• Seller applies to its bank or guarantor
• Bond issued in favor of the buyer
• Seller performs the contract
• Bond expires or is released after performance
• Buyer may claim if a covered default occurs

Performance Bonds are commonly considered in commodity supply, construction, energy, equipment delivery and long-term project contracts.

Their effectiveness depends on the issuing institution, amount, validity, claim wording, governing rules and consistency with the underlying contract.

A Performance Bond supports risk management, but it does not replace due diligence or proper contract documentation.
