WHAT KIND OF RESIDENCE PERMITS YOU NEED AND THE TERM OF SUCH PERMITS? There are 28 kinds of residence permits (in example; for tourist, for students, for a foreigner getting married with a Turkish citizen, and etc.) The most used residence permit is “tourist residence” which is issued with a term no longer than 6 months. The longest term a resident permit is granted for is five years. However, in order to get such a long residence permit you should have a good reason such as being proprietor of a real estate in Turkey or being a citizen of EU member country etc. Persons who wish to extend this period must apply again to the security authorities within fifteen days of the permit expiration date.
