There are 28 kinds of residence permits (in example; for tourist, for students, for a foreigner getting married with a Turkish citizen, and etc.) The most used residence permit is “tourist residence” which is issued with a term no longer than 6 months. The longest term a resident permit is granted for is five years. However, in order to get such a long residence permit you should have a good reason such as being proprietor of a real estate in Turkey or being a citizen of EU member country etc. Persons who wish to extend this period must apply again to the security authorities within fifteen days of the permit expiration date. The Immigration office (Göç İdaresi) announced on their official twitter feed (twitter.com/Gocidaresi) a number of changes to some Residence Permits.

1. The STRP (Short Term Residence Permit) will now be valid for 2 years instead of 1
2. FRP (Family Residence Permits) can now be up to 3 years in duration
3. The STRP limitation of 120 days outside of the country before cancellation of permit has been removed
4. The FRP limitation of 180 days outside the country before cancellation has been removed

Mail Barcode Number Is Notified Via Sms

Residence permit documents (residence cards) of the foreigners, whose first application and application for renewal are made visa e-Residence system and assessment processes are resulted positively, are issued by Directorate General of Migration Management and sent to the address submitted during application (address to stay in Turkey) via PTT Cargo.

In case that foreigner, whose residence permit document is issued and sent to the address, is not found at the address for any reason, residence permit document will not be delivered to a third person. The residence permit document stays in PTT Cargo’s nearest branch for 10 (ten) days. If documents are not received within this period, they will be returned to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management where the application is made.

Foreigners, whose residence permits are issued, are notified of the mail tracking number (barcode) with an SMS via mobile phone number submitted during application in order to follow the delivery process of their residence permit documents when the mail is delivered to the cargo.

For this reason it is highly important to write the address and mobile phone number correctly during the residence permit application visa e-Residence system!

Residence permit documents cannot be delivered by hand or with different procedures, they are only sent via PTT cargo to the foreigner’s address.

What is a residence permit? Who are eligible for it?

Foreign nationals that enter in the country with a valid passport or a substitute document as a passport are allowed to stay in our country during the term of their visa or a of a visa exemption. SHORT TERM RESIDENCE PERMIT

Those, who come to Turkey within visa from our consulates, banderole visa or visa exemption, can be given 6 months’ residence permit at the end of these periods within the provisions concerning residence permits. This residence permit is given once in a calender year. When touristic residence permit is required again, it can be given 3 months after the end of a calender year.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

• Residence Proclamation Form
• 4 passport photos
• The original of the passport
• Copy of the passport (Page with the photo, page which indicates the last entrance, page which indicates the validity period)
• Residence permit fee (Paid to Foreigners’ Department after submitting the complete documents)
• Fee receipt of the fee paid to the revenue counter

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
The applicant must submit the documents listed below to the relevant Security Directorate for long term residence in Turkey:

• 4 passport photos
• Passport
• The page on which there is the applicant’s photo, the page on which there is the stamp which indicates the last entry and the page which indicate the validity period
• Document from the bank to indicate saving account to meet an expense of 500 USD every month or change receipt

Citizens of the A Group Countries: To those who request residence permit at the end of the visa period after coming to Turkey, 3 years’ residence permit is given at the first time and afterwards, residence permits each valid for maximum 5 years are given. To the citizens of A group countries who come for settling purposes can be given 5 years’ residence permit at the first stage.
