From 2008 till 2011 he has served as a board member with the Turkish Society of Nova Scotia.Mehmet organized the first Turkish Night in 2003. Since the Turkish society established (2007) he became a chair of Social Activities committee. Mehmet became a founder of the Turkish Student Association at Saint Mary's University as well. He organized for the Turkish students several workshops such as "Welcome Party”. He invited a facilitator, his colleague with talking about the Canadian Culture, transportation, life and culture in many aspects, mainly conducted informational meetings for especially new students.In 2010, he organized how to immigrate to Canada workshop with Nova Scotia Office of Immigration which attracted international students to stay in Canada. Mehmet was a leader for organizing The Turkish Ambassadors trip in 2009. In 2009 again, for the first time he organized April 23 national Sovereignty and Children's Day, and invited the different cultures in HRM.In 2011 he organized a Fundraising event for the Earthquake victims in Eastern Turkey. The fund was transferred to the Turkish Red Cross and Turkish army forces. There were 50 musicians or dancers from more than 10 different countries. He also organized a bus trip to Lunenburg on the Turkish Youth Day – May 19th 2012. The trip brought many Turkish community members get together.Every year, he has organized “Turkish Youth Day and Graduation Dinner”. In this event, he was trying to appreciate the students who have helped the community events during their studies as well as acknowledge their successes. Mehmet organized a fundraising event for the 6th Turkish Canadian Youth Conference in 2012. More than $12.000 raised and was supported of the Council of Turkish Canadians Youth Congress which was held in Halifax. He became more close to the local and federal ministers and members of parliament. He has mentioned the problems with Armenian and Turkish conflict and talked with the local Politicians.He has done a volunteer work for the Liberal party in the federal election – 2011. He worked with Justin Trudeau campaign. His expertise with the event planning helped a lot to the team. Mehmet has also participated in many focusing group activities during the elections. Mehmet has organized “The Night of Inspiration” event which has brought Arabic, Persian and Turkish communities under one roof for a night in every year. Our Canadian bureaucrats and politicians had a great opportunity to meet with community members during this special event. Mehmet Iskin received the Turkish Canadian Youth Council of Turkish Canadians Leadership Award and Jan & Stan Kutcher Turkish Community award in 2013.
