...as I seek to engage more on this platform through my consulting lens, I'm sharing some thoughts on the power of digital media and our responsibility as digital citizens.

Over the weekend, I facilitated a virtual seminar with 9 young women on harnessing their power and presence in the virtual space and understanding the need to be responsible digital citizens with a digital footprint they can proudly claim.

You see, the ability we possess to create and define our own digital experiences is unmatched and this comes with great power; a power that should be wielded wisely. Undeniably, our long-term success and relevance are now inextricably linked to the legacy we create as we navigate the digital world and how effectively we manage our health, emotional wellness and expectations.

: Do you believe that digital citizenship and responsibility should be incorporated into our primary and secondary curricula?

“Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four hour days.”
--Zig Ziglar

In the midst of constant change and heightened sensitivity, greater focus is required to maintain consistency and remain on your success path. The world is noisy, information, opportunities and activities appear to relentlessly pursue us; we have to therefore be intentional about cancelling out the noise and focusing on what nourishes and builds us in our pursuit of success.

Whatever you commit to, commit fully with the understanding that the commitment to staying focused will assist us in avoiding the distractions that will hurt our efforts. Focus improves productivity, focus helps us with clarity of thought, focus is that which helps us to effectively navigate.

We are what we repeatedly do. What are you focused on?

The Development Lab. is a new boutique consultancy which specialises in content creation, corporate training and advisory service in the areas of professional, personal and strategic development.

... that I am excited today... our branding assets have been delievered takine me one step closer to sharing with you the new brand and direction for TDL. Sincerest thanks for staying the course with me on this journey in full-time entrepreneurship.

The journey has definitely been exciting. After some time out of the country, I returned to my home-base in January of this year to begin working full-time on the 'launch' of The Development Lab. During this time, through my network, I was also able to secure an amazing opportunity which I planned to use for the introduction of The Development Lab. to the landscape. In my mind I said 'yes'... look at God, look at how everything is falling into place! COVID-19 quickly disrupted those plans and jolted me into .

I had to accept, readjust and remain focused and I decided that I will not get despondent but use the down time to continue critical work behind-the-scenes while pacing myself as I also manage a Non-Profit and two other family businesses. And I did. Then by mid-April, God literally sent three amazing clients my way; as if to remind me of my purpose and His promises towards me!

So, as the work continues, my encouragement to you is to be adaptable, to tap into the power of networks, to embrace change and challenges and to maintain a positive mindset!

…as the world continues to adjust to a new paradigm and many long for reassurance about the future; we are required to find effective ways to stay connected. Many of us are being called to operate outside of our norm.

I am not exempt.

This and my full embrace of it has caused me to give more thought to “comfort zones.” Within comfort zones choices and activities fit a routine & pattern which often prompts a steady level of performance. In this zone perceived risk & stress are minimised and we enjoy a state of mental security. Comfort zones, however, can limit growth and so, we ought to be careful to not always reside there.

Comfort zones do have their place and should not simply be demonised. In fact, leaving one’s comfort zone means increased risk and anxiety and as with many choices in life, there can be pros and cons. Notwithstanding the increased risk and anxiety of stepping out, if properly assessed and harnessed, these can improve mental productivity and performance.

So, in this season of great change, I encourage you to carefully and strategically step out and be pleasantly surprised by enhanced creativity, advanced and new skills, personal growth, peak performance, new opportunities and even maturity.

...sometimes YOU have to ENCOURAGE YOURSELF...

COVID-19 continues to disrupt the world as we know it and the sudden changes to life, including when and how we work and earn as well our the freedom to socialise and escape; can be overwhelming in ways unimaginable.

How then can we stay self-motivated in this time... particularly when our creativity, mental health and ultimately, our economic survival are inextricably linked to our ability to produce and remain relevant?

The following are a few actions that we can use as we navigate the new realities before us:

• Find/Revisit activities that inspire
• Celebrate small wins and successes
• Remain focused
• Connect with your intrinsic values
• Find creative ways to have fun, include physical activity
• Momentarily disconnect/detox from information overload

As world events continue to unfold, I can't help but think about life's only constant, change. I am sure you have been thinking about change as well. Unprecedented change for individual lives and the world- as we know it- has begun st and will continue as we all witness, from the front row, to the impact of the greatest disruptor of our era.

Effectively coping with change is critical for mental health and future success. Most of us make one of two coping choices, escape or control. Escape is grounded in avoidance of the new reality, however, control is rooted in a positive and proactive approach. Change can be difficult to navigate, but with a positive mindset and proactive approach to understanding change and adjusting our habits and expectations, we can better cope and transition.

So, as we process the constantly-evolving new reality, let us:

1. Reframe our outlook
2. Celebrate the positives
3. Engage in self-care to manage stress &
4. Seek support when required.

As the rebranding continues, I want to share content to encourage and edify and today I start with these ...

Whether engaged in private or public service, your reputation is crucial to building and maintaining success and impact and key to your reputation are compartmentalisation and compromise.

Compartmentalisation allows you to clarify priorities and establish healthy boundaries so that energy towards purpose can be maximised. In this digital age of information overload and pressure to always be accessible, compartmentalisation is also an effective tool which improves productivity and ensures quality as it is grounded in strong mental separation, deep focus. Compromise, simply, is intentional submission to mediocrity and should never be given room to exist. It affects value, brand integrity and service delivery and legacy.

These four habits can sharpen your compartmentalisation skills and help you to avoid compromise and ultimately build your reputation.

1. Deviate from standards … do not!
2. Delineate … emotions from logic.
3. Distractions… starve them!
4. Delegate … where possible.

It is also worthy to note that none of this is a call to absolute inflexibility. However, always be careful to never compromise on your standards and also compartmentalise and be truthful about that which you can effectively complete and manage as these are inextricably linked to your reputation!
