HHSL Safety Systems Limited Based in the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, HHSL Safety Systems Limited, is THE ONLY OPITO Certified Principal and founder, Capt. H. Capt.

Based in the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, HHSL Safety Systems Limited, is THE ONLY OPITO Certified Safety Training Centre 100% owned and operated by Nationals of Trinidad & Tobago. HHSL Safety Systems Limited is the only Safety Training Organisation in Trinidad & Tobago and the Caribbean region to hold ISO 9001:2000 Certification for Quality. A subsidiary of Hummingbird Helicopter Services Limit

ed, HHSL Safety Systems Limited is a company dedicated to the provision of QUALITY safety training, consultancy and related services geared in the main but not limited to the petrochemical industry. Anthony Vieira a 10,000+ hour helicopter pilot, has been involved in safety training since 1984 when the then AMOCO saw a need to offer its workers some measure of open sea survival training. Vieira conducted this training programme from its inception. In 1998, Hummingbird Helicopter Services Limited was the first company to introduce Helicopter Underwater Egress Training (HUET) to Trinidad and Tobago and the region. Hummingbird as we are familiarly known has since become well known for its signature delivery of HUET and other internationally recognised and certificated training programmes. In 2001 due to an increased demand for training, Capt. Vieira was approached by BP to supplement their basic safety training needs. In support of the BP initiative, Hummingbird commenced offering both a four (4) day basic safety programme and a two (2) day refresher. For this purpose RGIT Montrose of Aberdeen Scotland, audited and approved the Company as the only other company besides themselves recognised in Trinidad & Tobago to conduct BP TT LLC basic safety training. With a successful audit from an internationally recognised training organisation in hand, a growing track record for reliability, quality, efficiency and exceptional customer service, Capt. Vieira continued to steer HHSL Safety Systems Limited along a path of development that saw the Company bidding for and being one of three (and the only Company 100% owned and operated by nationals of Trinidad & Tobago) from an initial group of seventy-two (72) to be awarded the BPTT Basic Safety Training contract. The BPTT training contract award signaled the beginning of the realisation of a vision for HHSL Safety Systems Limited that would see the relocation of offices to a more appropriate site and heavy reinvestment into the upgrade of plant and equipment in 2005 to include the purchase of state-of-the-art training simulators in a 6 place METS (Multiple Egress Training Simulator) complete with indoor pool and crane operation, and a fully computerised fire training simulator with flashover capability. The fire trainer is the only equipment of its kind in the Caribbean region and South America. Reinvestment in plant and equipment and upgrade in facilities and skills would not suffice. Revenue earning potential needed to be supported by international recognition. To this end, and having proven our capability thus far to a diverse clientele, the development path continued with HHSL Safety Systems Limited and its group of outstanding professionals embarking on the pursuit of OPITO (Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation) certification in 2005. After successfully undergoing grueling desktop, facilities and training audits, HHSL Safety Systems Limited was granted OPITO certification in November 2005.

Heroes Foundation Trinidad and Tobago

The Heroes Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) founded 24 years ago by Philip Julien and their mission is to transform lives and forge a brighter future by disrupting negative influences, addressing socioeconomic challenges, and empowering young people with the values, skills, and abilities necessary to build safe and sustainable lives and inspire positive behaviour change as 21st-century leaders.

So when CEO Lawrence Arjoon reached out to notify our company of their upcoming Spiderman Movie fund raiser at Movie Towne on July 31st, we jumped at it and bought the 25 Ticket package with our dear friends of the Lady Hochoy Home foremost in mind.

With wife and daughter in tow, we arrived early to meet and greet our differently able guests, arrange and carry their meals then get them seated for the start of a memorable evening.

I must admit I was overwhelmed not only by the sellout crowd but by the many NGO’s present, however none as special as my Lady Hochoy Home guests including the wonderful and caring supervisors looking after them.

Thank you Sister Bertil, Supervisors and our friends of the Lady Hochoy Home for giving us the opportunity to be part of your lives if only for a couple hours which I can best describe as priceless and humbling !

It’s not often you get to spend time with Heroes but last night we did and will it never be forgotten.

Trini to the Bow (and Arrow)

In March 2026, an employee approached me and asked If HHSL Safety Systems Limited would be interested in sponsoring a young man to participate in the Pan American Youth and Masters Archery Championships in Medellin, Colombia from May 24th-28th.

We agreed to sponsor the young man but never got the opportunity to meet him nor wish him best of luck in the competition, prior to his departure.

Lo and behold, 14 year old Rondon Wilkinson went up against the best of the best in the Barebow Under 15 Archery event and blew away the field, copping Gold and creating history as the first Gold Medal in Archery for Trinidad and Tobago !

Rondon and his family just paid us a courtesy call to show us his medal and extend their appreciation for supporting him.

It was amazing to listen to how Rondon became involved in Archery and with such humility . Quiet, unassuming , attentive and passionate best describes this young man who is going to make history again with his skills.

In October , he's participating in the CDC Games in Guyana. Held under the auspices of World Archery Americas, the CDC brings together developing and competitive archers from across 11 countries to strengthen technical skills, build camaraderie, and foster growth in the sport.

We take this opportunity to wish Rondon Wilkinson a successful event and it's an honor and privilege to sponsor his participation.

Go for Gold Rondon !

Emergency Response Crews starting their day

It's 6am and the office is buzzing with activity as HHSL Safety Systems Limited Emergency Response Technicians kick start their day under the watchful eyes of their Supervisors and Team Leads.

Six (6) different worksites today with different risks so preparation to respond to any emergency is critical, hence the reason the mobilization pre-checks are extensive.

Vehicles, Rope Bags, Hardware, SCBA's, Skeds, Backboards, Hydration, Comms and other special equipment e.g. Dolphin 3 MOB device for work near or over water!

But checks are not limited to the equipment only but also extends to the equipment users!

We engage our personnel in discussions on physical and mental readiness prior to their departure as reassurance that our teams can perform optimally should they be called upon to respond.

Confined Space Rescue, High Angle Rope Rescue, Firefighting, HAZWOPER, Medical Emergencies, Trench Rescue and Man Overboard to name a few, HHSL Safety Systems Limited continues to raise the bar on Emergency Response for Trinidad & Tobago's Petrochemical Industry.

If your husband, wife, son, daughter, nephew, niece or a friend is an Emergency Responder, give them a hug if you can before they leave for work as you have no idea what their day or night can become when the alarm sounds!

SCBA Training and Proficiency

SCBA training is crucial for emergency rescue technicians as it equips them with the necessary skills to operate SCBAs effectively in hazardous environments.

HHSL Safety Systems Limited ensures that all our Emergency Response Technicians (ERT’s) undergo rigorous training starting with theory which covers the physiology of respiration, SCBA anatomy and functions, safety considerations, operations, and practical use of the equipment.

The Practical exercises are exhaustive starting with pre-wearers checks, donning and doffing the SCBA, entering a fire and smoke-filled room to locate and rescue trapped workers while maintaining the breathing apparatus safely.

Another exercise that our ERT’s must successfully complete is crawling through a dark tunnel with obstructions stretching across their path which is designed to snag or entangle them, forcing their removal of the SCBA Tank from their back while still under air and pushing it ahead of them, all the way to the exit!

This training is essential for enhancing workplace safety and ensuring the ability of our ERT’s to respond in emergency situations and maintain their proficiency in using SCBAs in real-world scenarios.

Why Is High-Angle Rescue Training and Re-Training so Important?

High-angle rescue training is essential for equipping emergency responders with the specialized skills and knowledge required to operate in extreme and often hazardous vertical environments. These environments include Offshore Platforms, Process Plants, Communication Towers, Construction sites, and confined spaces—locations where traditional rescue methods are ineffective or impossible.

Without proper training, both rescuers and victims face significant risks. Inadequate preparation can lead to delayed response times, increased injury severity, or even fatalities.

Rigorous, scenario-based training ensures rescuers can act quickly, safely, and effectively under pressure. High-angle rescue techniques draw from multiple disciplines, including:
-Rope access and rigging systems
-Use of aerial work platforms
-Patient packaging and transport
-Risk assessment and hazard mitigation
-Clear communication strategies

Mastering these techniques enables rescuers to maintain control over both their own safety and the casualty’s condition while operating in high-risk settings.

Ultimately, consistent training and adherence to established protocols not only improve performance but also save lives—making high-angle rescue training not just important, but indispensable.

That's why Industry turns to HHSL Safety Systems Limited for JOIFF Certified Training and Emergency Rescue Technicians for High-Risk activities.

The Lifesaving Importance of Staying Certified in First Aid

Life is unpredictable. Emergencies can strike at any moment—at home, at work, or in public—and often when we least expect them. From sudden accidents to serious health crises, being able to respond quickly and effectively can mean the difference between life and death. That’s where first aid knowledge becomes not just valuable, but essential.

First aid training provides individuals with the tools to act decisively during critical moments. Whether it's performing CPR, managing bleeding, or recognizing the signs of a stroke, these skills empower people to take control in emergencies. But like any skill, first aid must be kept sharp. Knowledge fades over time, techniques evolve, and new guidelines are introduced. That’s why regular recertification is not just recommended—it’s crucial.

HHSL Safety Systems Limited has been teaching internationally recognized Medic First Aid programs for over twenty(20) years to all industries here in T&T. We also ensure all our staff including Emergency Rescue Technicians(ERT's) have completed this program in addition to having an Emergency Medical Technician(EMT) or Paramedic on each Rescue Team!

The Importance of Offshore Lifeboat Coxswain Training and Re-Training

Offshore lifeboat coxswain training and re-training is essential for maritime professionals working in high-risk environments such as oil rigs, ships, and offshore platforms.

This specialized training ensures that coxswains are fully equipped to lead life-saving operations during emergencies. The key reasons for its importance include:

1. Safety of Personnel
Coxswains are directly responsible for the safety of all individuals on board during emergency evacuations. Comprehensive training ensures they:
· Stay calm under pressure.
· Navigate safely through dangerous conditions.
· Manage passengers to avoid panic and injury.

2. Effective Emergency Response
Emergencies offshore, such as fires, explosions, or vessel abandonment, demand immediate action. Trained coxswains are prepared to:
· Make quick and accurate decisions.
· Execute rescue and evacuation procedures efficiently.
· Operate lifesaving equipment even in harsh environments.

3. Mastery of Comprehensive Skills
Advanced training programs equip coxswains with:
· Seamanship skills: Navigating lifeboats in rough weather and limited visibility.
· Communication: Coordinating with other rescue units and command centers.
· Leadership and decision-making: Managing crew and passengers effectively under stress.

The bottom-line ?

Without proper training and re-training, a coxswain’s ability to respond to emergencies is severely compromised, putting lives at risk. Offshore lifeboat coxswain training is not just a requirement—it's a critical investment in offshore safety and survival.

That’s why HHSL Safety Systems Limited Instructors are OPITO trained and assessed in Aberdeen Scotland to be able to deliver the highest standards to our clients in T&T.
