❓ What is the Landlord Business Surcharge (LBS)?
A mandatory tax and registration requirement for anyone earning rental income from residential or commercial properties in Trinidad & Tobago. All landlords must register with the BIR.

❓ Who needs to register?
Anyone receiving rent, including landlords living overseas and agents collecting rent on behalf of landlords.

❓ Is registration mandatory?
✅ Yes. Failure to register can result in penalties and other compliance issues.

❓ What happens after I register?
You will receive a Certificate of Registration from the BIR and will be required to make quarterly surcharge payments based on your rental income.

❓ How much is the surcharge?
• 2.5% on quarterly rental income up to $20,000
• 3.5% on quarterly rental income over $20,000

📌 Example:
If you collect $5,000 per month in rent:
$5,000 × 3 months = $15,000 quarterly income
LBS payable = $375 for the quarter.

❓ When are payments due?
March 31
June 30
September 30
December 31

❓ Where can payments be made?
Payments are made through the Inland Revenue Division (IRD) after registration and issuance of your registration details. Contact the IRD or visit their offices for payment processing instructions.

When applying for a Trinidad and Tobago passport, the type of passport you currently hold determines whether you will be applying for a Renewal or a First Issue Passport.

✅ Machine-Readable Passport (MRP)
If your current passport has:
Machine-typed information
A machine-readable code at the bottom of the bio-data page
Security features and patterned pages
You may qualify for a Passport Renewal Application.

-Supporting documents for any name change (if applicable)

📝 Handwritten Passport If your passport contains:

👉 You are registering YOURSELF because you earn income from rent.
Once you collect rent from a property — residential or commercial — you are considered a LANDLORD and must register.

💰 One-Time Registration Fee: $2,500
📊 Rental Income Surcharge
Calculated using rent ACTUALLY collected (not expected rent):
• 2.5% — rental income up to $20,000 quarterly
• 3.5% — rental income OVER $20,000 quarterly

🧮 Examples:
✔ Rent = $5,000 monthly
$5,000 × 3 = $15,000 quarterly
➡️ 2.5% = $375 surcharge
✔ Rent = $8,000 monthly
$8,000 × 3 = $24,000 quarterly
➡️ 3.5% = $840 surcharge

📅 Quarterly Payment Schedule on:

This fee is paid per landlord, not per property.

If You're a landlord that owns multiple apartments or property at multiple locations you pay $2,500

🔹 Class 3 (Private) Driver’s Permit Holders:
If you currently hold a Class 3 only driver’s permit, you are eligible to renew online up to ONE (1) month before the expiration date. We strongly encourage early renewal to ensure a smooth and hassle-free process.

⚠️ Important to Note:
Once your permit expires—even by just one (1) day—online renewal will no longer be permitted. You will then be required to visit the Licensing Office in person and pay a late fee, in addition to facing possible delays.
