At 8:30 PM Today Saturday 28 March, we’ll be joining millions around the world in switching off for one hour.

Now in its 20th year, Earth Hour started in Sydney, Australia as a simple idea and has grown into a global movement powered by everyday people.

We are proud to share that MetrIQs Solutions Limited co-founder Michele Kalloo, was selected in December 2025 as a mentor in the Youth Ecopreneur (YECO) Programme, an international initiative led by the International Trade Centre in partnership with the G20 Global Land Initiative under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.

The programme brings together entrepreneurs and mentors from across the world to support innovative solutions in land restoration and green business. In the most recent cohort, more than 1,500 venture applications were received globally, with 25 ventures selected for the YECO Accelerator, representing 18 countries.

Through the programme, Michele is mentoring Joshua Forte of Red Diamond Compost in , whose work focuses on transforming seaweed and other organic biomass into regenerative soil bio-stimulants that improve soil health and climate resilience.

We are also pleased to see Joshua recently named as one of the global finalists pitching at the summit in Paris, one of the world’s leading sustainability innovation events.

Congratulations to Joshua and the entire YECO cohort. Caribbean innovation continues to make an impact on the global stage.

Keep Your Imports & Exports Moving!

Many Trinidad and Tobago importers and exporters were caught off guard by last week’s news of the temporary suspension of container operations from October 22–30 at berths 6E, 6W and 7 at the Port of Port of Spain.

With year-end shipments already under pressure and global freight delays still unpredictable, the timing added to concerns across the business community.

That’s why the joint update from the Customs & Excise Division, the Port Authority of Trinidad & Tobago (PATT), the Port of Port of Spain and PLIPDECO is welcome news showing coordination to keep cargo flowing smoothly and minimize disruption.
