🔧 Sometimes, It’s Not the Sensor… It’s the Diagnosis! 🚗💻
A previous customer reached out to us almost 2 years after their last visit because they were experiencing some issues with their vehicle. Their current mechanic had recommended replacing the airflow sensor and oxygen sensor, but the customer wanted a second opinion before spending money on parts.
So, we got to work. 🔍
After carrying out our diagnostic checks, we noticed something interesting:
➡️ Long-Term Fuel Trim: +20%
➡️ Short-Term Fuel Trim: +20%
➡️ Injector Pulse Width: 4 ms
These readings were tell-tale signs that the ECU was commanding more fuel than it normally should.
Before replacing any parts, we started asking questions.
“When was the vehicle last properly serviced?”
The customer explained that the vehicle was serviced every 4–5 months and that an oil change was done each time.
And this is where we had to explain something very important:
👉 An oil change is NOT the same thing as a complete vehicle service.
As a vehicle accumulates mileage, manufacturers recommend different preventative maintenance services at different intervals. These services are designed to keep the vehicle operating properly and, more importantly, prevent bigger and more expensive problems down the road.
The customer explained that their mechanic had never mentioned any of these additional services.
Now, we could have used this opportunity to speak badly about another technician but that's not how we operate.
Every mechanic, technician, parts supplier, car wash operator and detailer is our comrade. 🤝
We respect everyone in the automotive industry. We believe in diagnosing the problem, fixing it correctly, and educating the customer along the way.
So instead of simply throwing expensive sensors at the vehicle, we continued with our diagnosis.
We removed the fuel injectors and carried out a proper injector service.
The result? 🔥
✅ Trouble codes cleared
✅ Fuel trims returned to normal operating range
✅ No unnecessary sensor replacement
✅ Vehicle running properly again
This is why proper diagnosis matters.
Don't just replace parts because a fault code points in a certain direction. A fault code is a clue, not always the final answer.
