Nissan Wingroad Y11 | Low Idle & Stalling – DTC P0335

This Nissan Wingroad Y11 was presented with a complaint of intermittent low idle and stalling when placed in gear. The vehicle also had a stored P0335 – Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit fault code.

The condition was intermittent, making diagnosis challenging, as the fault could not be consistently reproduced during testing.

Diagnostic Process
The Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) was tested using a scan tool and was found to be functioning correctly and responding properly to ECM commands.

An oscilloscope was used to perform camshaft-to-crankshaft correlation analysis.

Testing revealed that the camshaft timing was a few degrees out of correlation with the crankshaft. While the deviation was not severe, it should be monitored as it may contribute to drivability concerns.

Pressure transducer testing was performed on both:
Intake system
Exhaust system
Results appeared normal with no obvious indications of:
Valve sealing issues
Exhaust restrictions
Mechanical breathing problems

Fuel pressure was tested and found to be within specification:
Approximately 34 PSI at idle
Approximately 43 PSI with vacuum reference disconnected

Both systems were tested and found to be operating correctly:
EVAP purge solenoid
EGR system

A mechanical vacuum gauge was installed during testing.
Results showed:
Healthy and stable vacuum at idle under no-load conditions
When shifted into gear, vacuum dropped into the 15 inHg range
This drop coincided with the low idle condition and stalling complaint.

The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) was found to be out of calibration and was adjusted accordingly. An idle relearn procedure was then performed.

To help mitigate the intermittent low idle and stalling condition, the base idle speed was manually increased using the scan tool.

At the time of testing:
The fault remained intermittent
The condition could not be consistently reproduced
Further diagnostic testing may be required if the issue becomes more frequent or constant

Recommendations
Inspect power steering lines for leaks and repair as necessary
Perform an underbody/engine wash to allow proper inspection for oil leaks
Inspect the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) vacuum hose and replace if deteriorated, leaking, or damaged
Continue monitoring the vehicle and return for further testing if the condition becomes more consistent

If your Nissan stalls when placed in gear and the fault is intermittent, a systematic approach using scan data, waveform analysis, and mechanical testing is critical.

This 1999 Nissan B15 with the QG15DE cable-throttle engine was presented with a high idle condition.

The vehicle had previously been worked on, and during diagnosis it was discovered that the internal check valve mechanism had been removed from the PCV valve. As a result, the PCV valve was no longer regulating crankcase airflow correctly and was effectively acting as a vacuum leak.

Symptoms
High idle
Unstable idle control
Idle relearn difficulties
Excessive airflow entering the intake system

Repair Performed
Replaced the faulty PCV valve and hose
Verified proper PCV system operation
Performed idle relearn procedure
Confirmed normal idle speed and engine operation

Results
After replacing the PCV valve and completing the idle relearn procedure:

Idle speed returned to normal
Engine operation stabilized
No further idle issues were observed

If your Nissan has a high idle condition, don't overlook the PCV valve—a simple fault can create symptoms that look like a major engine management issue.
