In observance of World Su***de Prevention Day, our students and staff at the La Brea Campus remind us that a kind word, a listening ear and a simple act of support can make a difference.

Let’s continue to look out for one another, speak openly, and remind those around us that they are not alone.

GET READY FOR TRINIDAD & TOBAGO’S NATIONAL BUDGET

As Trinidad and Tobago prepares for the 2026 National Budget, citizens, businesses, investors and other stakeholders should look beyond the Budget presentation itself and take the time to understand the important supporting documents that accompany it.

The Ministry of Finance, Trinidad and Tobago will provide a range of documents that help explain where Government’s revenue is expected to come from, how public funds are proposed to be spent, which sectors and programmes are being prioritised, and what investments are planned for the country.

These supporting documents are important because they allow us to move beyond the headlines and examine the details behind the Government’s fiscal and economic plans.

Among the key documents to understand are:

• Budget Statement – the Government’s overall fiscal and policy direction.
• Estimates of Revenue – showing the Government’s expected sources of revenue.
• Estimates of Expenditure – showing proposed spending by Ministries and Departments.
• Estimates of Recurrent Expenditure – providing greater detail on the Government’s ongoing operational expenditure.
• Development Programme / Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) – highlighting planned development projects and capital investment.

Heritage Petroleum’s continued investment in offshore infrastructure, increased production and new developments, including 850 additional barrels of oil per day from Cluster 37 and the construction of Cluster 39 for three new wells in FY2027, highlights the scale of ongoing activity in our maritime and energy sectors.

These developments reinforce the economic feasibility and strategic importance of establishing a modern shipbuilding and repair facility at La Brea.

A strategically located La Brea Shipyard could support offshore operations through ship repair, maintenance, fabrication, marine services and vessel support, while creating opportunities for local businesses, skilled workers and regional partnerships.

More offshore activity means greater demand for maritime infrastructure.

La Brea Shipyard project is an investment in Trinidad & Tobago’s industrial and maritime future.

Over 11,335 square kilometres of Trinidad and Tobago’s uncharted seafloor was mapped. The scientists used this data to locate 219 bubble streams, indicators of possible cold-seep sites. Powered by chemical energy such as methane bubbling from the ocean floor, cold seep ecosystems support marine life – including mussels, clams, and tubeworms – through chemosynthetic bacteria rather than sunlight. https://speseas.org/2026/09/07/press-release-first-caribbean-led-expedition-toexplore-trinidad-tobagos-deep-sea-unveils-rich-ecosystems/

The team discovered 25 cold seep ecosystems, 20 suspected new species, and mapped 13% of the country’s uncharted seafloor. High resolution images and videos available by clicking here. PORT OF SPAI…

TTCSI President Dianne Joseph said the initiative aims to create an export economy where non-energy services stand alongside the country’s energy sector. She said the services industry, which accounts for about 60% of national GDP, is already the country’s primary engine of employment and has the talent, expertise and digital capabilities needed to drive economic diversification.
