WHAT DO PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL LIBRARIES NEED?

A space: Most schools have one

Books children want to read: Many collections haven't had new books in over 20 years. NALIS has the mandate for public primary school libraries but no budget for books.

A person to run it: Most schools have no one dedicated to the library

A library without a librarian is just a room.

Most of Trinidad and Tobago's 481 public primary schools have a library space, but no one dedicated to it, and no ongoing supply of new books. Without that, even a restored library slowly slips back to where it started.

That's why Let's Read has paused new restorations. We're ready to help again, and we have a solution: if the Government assigns OJTs to primary school libraries, Let's Read will train them to run those libraries effectively.

Here's how you can help:

Comment "YES" if you believe every public primary school deserves a working library
Share this post and tag the Ministry of Education
Contact your MP and ask them to support trained library staff in our public primary schools

Our children can't wait another 20 years.
