Working as a manager at a nightclub I always looked for opportunities to go above and beyond for my patrons.
Story time.
A new beverage had just came out and it immediately became the #1 choice for female patrons. I had only bought a few cases just to see how fast in sells and in no time they were all gone.
The following day was a Friday, my busiest night and I couldn't get this beverage from any of my regular vendors...all sold out.
Fortunately most patrons understood that and chose something else.
One guy came in with his wife, sat her at a table then approached the bar counter. When he found out that we too didn't have that preferred drink in stock he was visibly disappointed. He even explained to my staff and I that his wife don't normally come out but the only reason he got her to agree that night was because she had recently tried that drink and loved it so he brought her out to enjoy a few.
My staff were taught to never leave it at "we don't have" but to always offer another option. That was done and although they accepted they were still somewhat saddened as they had already checked a couple bars prior with no luck.
As they sat at their table enjoying their 2nd choice beverage, I decided to check another less-frequented bar, luckily they had and I bought 3 bottles. I was super excited to return.
I hid them as I walked in, placed 2 in the refrigerator at the back then opened one and took it to their table. I presented it to his wife and said this drink is on me then turned to him and said there was two more available for purchase just for her.
They were both blown away and couldn't hide their excitement. This is the kind of satisfaction I love seeing from the people I serve.
I created an amazing story for them to share that brought a great advertising opportunity as they tell others about how the establishment and I went above and beyond for them.
