Morality and Ethics. Morals are the standards that society accepts and/or sets. Ethics are the responses and/or behaviors of people in relation to established moral codes or standards. In a society that has conflicting and ambiguous or confusing moral codes or standards, all are challenged to behave in a manner that is acceptable to all. Ethics resides within an individual so one's response to a particular situation is an indication of the morality accepted by the individual. It is for that we have leaders that cannot point to sound ethical behaviours because they are confused in a confused society.

There are some who try to teach leadership and some do impact positively on others. Leadership can be taught but not through the traditional way; one or two seminars using chalk and board or marker and board or PowerPoint and a screen or digital conference platform. Those tools are useful but they are not enough to reach the learner. Teaching leadership requires much more; coaching, mentoring, assessing, communicating in ways that resonate with the learner. A good to great leadership coach must have experience not only at the leadership level but at the vocational and social levels so that a fuller background of human engagement would be internalized. Leadership coaching requires knowledge, ability and capacity by the trainer.

The Trainer/ Facilitator do not always have the best facility to train employees of small to medium firms but the focus and purpose of the training takes precedent. Help to develop people in any workable scenario and place is the best option.

Leadership in the medium services sector is challenging for the owners and key operatives/ managers/ supervisors. Leadership is required to manage conflict, motivate operatives and demonstrate care on two fronts: business and staff. Some business owners especially those that started as a micro/ small business find it challenging (at different degrees) to deal with conflict among staff, production and quality service while trying to minimize staff turnover. Business people know there is a cost (sometimes high) to frequent exit of experienced staff and onboarding of new recruits. In one entity, competing views of the multiple owners lead to dysfunction at the top level, this eventually trickles down to the lower levels. Like a cancer the discord "eats" away at the management of the organizations core. Conflict at the top is exploited by those at the bottom as "smart" employees use the informal communication channels (which is the preferred means of communication) to position themselves into the "in-camps" providing information on their peers and taking information to their peers. The price of this system is the cost of mental and physical health care of the owners and the costs of operating inefficient but loved systems on eth other hand.
