ππ All eyes on fashion sustainability! π±
The fashion industry often gets criticized for its negative impact, but let's focus on the positive changes happening now. Giji Gya Obradovic, from the Counter Trafficking Network, stresses the need for collaboration between fashion brands and governments in textile-producing countries to enhance sustainability.
Improving human rights regulations in these centers will uplift the entire value chain, says Obradovic. But it's not enough to rely solely on ethical consumers. We need to create marketing incentives that make sustainability in fashion desirable. Even though brands like Shein, valued at $100bn, receive low ratings for their impact, people are still drawn to them because they're considered desirable. We must change that perception!
Simone Cipriani, founder of the Ethical Fashion Initiative, adds that sustainability should be at the heart of fashion companies' business models. It's a matter of governance and a commitment to making a difference.
Let's celebrate the progress in fashion sustainability together! ππΏ By working as a community, we can create a future where fashion looks good and does good. Join us on this journey! πβ¨
The fashion industryβs supply chain is disjointed when it comes to sustainability. How likely is it the sector will work together in future?
