The EasyCard can be easily purchased at 7/11 stores. Tip: only top up a small amount at first, a few hundred TWD should be enough.

NOT JUST ALISHAN, DON’T MISS THE MAGNIFICENT SHIZHUO TEA FARM 🍵 & FENQIHU OLD STREET

Everyone heads to Alishan for the sunrise and ancient forests, but the real magic often happens on the journey up there. If you're driving from Chiayi, two spots absolutely deserve a place on your itinerary: the serene Shizhuo Tea Farms and the charmingly nostalgic Fenqihu Old Street.

1. Fenqihu Old Street (奮起湖) 🚂:
Fenqihu is often playfully called "Southern Taiwan's version of Jiufen." Located at an elevation of 1,405 meters, it was once a crucial stop on the Alishan Forest Railway line.
What's interesting is that even though the name includes "hu" (湖), which means "lake," but it actually doesn't have a lake at all! The town is surrounded by three mountains, and from above, it resembles a "winnower" (畚箕), which is exactly how it earned its unique name.

👉 Things not to miss in Fenqihu:
✅ Follow your nose down Old Street: It's a cozy, sloping lane packed with the smell of freshly made goodies. Grab some warm cao guo (herbal mochi) and crispy almond brittle for the road.
✅ Try the famous doughnut & Fenqihu lunchbox 🍱: Created for forestry workers, these lunch boxes have become the town’s culinary icon. Eating it by the tracks is a must!
✅ Visit the train station and history museum 🏛️: The vintage railway station and small museum nearby showcase old locomotives, giving you a glimpse into the railway’s fascinating past.

🍵 2. Shizhuo Tea Farm:
Just a short drive from Alishan, Shizhuo has a completely different vibe from Fenqihu: it's quiet, lush, and the perfect place to slow down and "reset" your busy day 🧘. Endless tea fields roll across the hillsides, with clouds drifting above, beautiful like a painting!

👉 How to enjoy Shizhuo:
✅ Hike through the tea hills 🚶: The trails here (like the Eryanping Steps) are easy and reward you with breathtaking views over the endless green slopes.
✅ Chase the sea of clouds ☁️: The perfect altitude and climate create a stunning spectacle of clouds that looks like something out of a fairy tale.
