Earth Day 50th is just at the corner!

▌1st Earth Day
On April 22, 1970, 20 million Americans — 10% of the U.S. population at the time — took to the streets, college campuses and hundreds of cities to protest environmental ignorance and demand a new way forward for our planet.

▌Result of the 1st Earth Day
The Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species Acts were created in response to the first Earth Day in 1970, as well as the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Many countries soon adopted similar laws.

Earth Day is now recognized as the planet’s largest civic event- it's not just a day, it's a movement

Hello TEIA friends,

my name is Stefan and together with TEIA - 台灣環境資訊協會 Taiwan Environmental Information Association (TEIA) I would like to share environmental green news about Taiwan in English language.

Taiwan may be made of islands, but we are not isolated from the rest of the world and may affect others and are affected by the actions of others socially and environmentally. But for people outside of Taiwan, especially people who are not able to understand Chinese, it might be quite difficult to find information on environmental topics here in Taiwan.

That is why I plan to release one article on Taiwan environmental information every two weeks. I’m especially looking for volunteers translating articles (Mandarin English), but also editing articles or representing the content on social media could be something to help with. Most importantly you are interested in environmental news in Taiwan and keen on sharing some bits with the rest of the world.

So if you are interested and want to read more environmental information in English, please comment below or send a message to [email protected]!

Looking forward to hear from you, Stefan!

At a UN oceans summit, delegates from China, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines said they would work to keep plastics out of the seas.

Some of the promises are not yet formalised and environmentalists say the measures proposed are not nearly urgent enough.

China, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines say they will act to stop plastic polluting the oceans.
