Teaching English in Taiwan
Many teachers who come to teach English in Taiwan face challenges that they did not expect.
Taiwan has a very competitive education system, especially in private language schools and cram schools. Parents often expect teachers to speak with a clear, standardized English accent, usually closer to American pronunciation. Because schools compete strongly for students, they want teachers who can communicate clearly and confidently so that children feel comfortable and parents feel satisfied.
For many talented teachers from Africa, Latin America, or other regions, this can be difficult at first. Of course, every region has its own accent, and that is completely natural. However, in Taiwan, schools sometimes expect a certain pronunciation style, and unfortunately many schools do not have enough time to properly train new teachers.
This is where I can help.
I have several years of experience teaching English in Taiwan and working closely with teachers. I specialize in pronunciation coaching, articulation training, and teaching strategies for teachers who want to succeed in Taiwanese schools.
In my coaching sessions, I help teachers:
• Improve pronunciation and articulation
• Understand the expectations of Taiwanese schools and parents
• Prepare strong demo lessons (which are extremely important when applying for jobs)
• Organize lesson materials such as flashcards, games, and teaching props
• Communicate more effectively with school managers and colleagues
• Understand cultural differences in communication and workplace expectations
Taiwanese workplaces can be very efficient and fast-paced. Schools often expect teachers to adapt quickly, follow schedules strictly, and prepare lessons in advance. Understanding these expectations can make a big difference in your success as a teacher.
My goal is not to change who you are, but to help you adapt your teaching style so you can succeed and feel confident in Taiwan's education environment.
All coaching sessions are online, and we can meet through Google Meet, phone, or other simple communication tools. You do not need special equipment — we only need good communication and a willingness to improve.
If you are preparing for a demo lesson, starting a new teaching job in Taiwan, or simply want to improve your pronunciation and teaching confidence, I would be happy to help.
