Job Title: Bio Oil Medical Representative
Reports to: Sales/Marketing Manager
ABOUT THE BRAND: BIO-OIL (PRODUCT)
You will be representing a brand with a rich legacy. Union Swiss was founded in South Africa in 1956 by Karl Oskar Beier to market Swiss skincare. In 1972, under Dieter Beier, the company transitioned from a licensee to a brand owner, developing the now-iconic Bio-Oil.
Since 2000, under the leadership of the Letschert brothers, the company has focused single-mindedly on the global rollout of Bio-Oil, discontinuing all other lines to perfect this specialist range. Today, the portfolio consists of four "Skincare Superheroes" that you will champion in the market:
• The Original Superhero: The classic Bio-Oil Skincare Oil (Scars & Stretch Marks).
• The Dry Skin Superhero: Bio-Oil Dry Skin Gel.
• The Pregnancy Skincare Superhero: The global gold standard for expectant mothers.
• The Daily Moisturising Superhero: Bio-Oil Body Lotion.
Job Purpose:
To promote and sell the company’s pharmaceutical products to healthcare professionals, build strong relationships with doctors, pharmacists, and other stakeholders, and achieve sales targets in the assigned territory.
In this dual-focus role, you will be the primary bridge between the medical community and the retail market. You will be responsible for generating prescriptions and recommendations from healthcare professionals (Dermatologists, Gynaecologist’s, GPs) based on the clinical heritage of the brand, while simultaneously managing sales orders and merchandising within pharmacies and retail outlets
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Medical Detailing & Professional Marketing
• Healthcare Engagement: Conduct regular visits to target specialists (Dermatologists, Gynaecologists, Plastic Surgeons, and GPs) to promote the clinical benefits of the "Superhero" range.
• Scientific Storytelling: Use the brand's history (1956–present) and specialised focus to build trust with doctors, explaining why Bio-Oil remains the market leader for scars and stretch marks.
• Event Representation: Represent the brand at medical conferences, antenatal classes, and dermatology seminars to increase brand visibility.
Sales, Distribution & Merchandising
• Pharmacy & Retail Management: Maintain active relationships with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and retail store managers to ensure the full Bio-Oil range is stocked.
• Order Generation: Proactively secure sales orders from existing clients and identify new accounts (pharmacies, baby shops, supermarkets, and cosmetic stores).
• Visual Merchandising: Ensure the distinct orange and white branding is displayed prominently on shelves (Planogram compliance), and Point of Sale (POS) materials are effectively utilised.
• Stock Monitoring: Monitor stock levels at retail points to prevent stock-outs of key SKUs (e.g.,60ml vs 200ml bottles).
Market Intelligence & Reporting
• Competitor Analysis: Monitor competitor activities, pricing, and new product launches.
• Reporting: Submit daily/weekly call reports, sales figures, and coverage plans.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Biology, or Marketing.
• A Medical/Science background is preferred to effectively communicate product efficacy.
Experience:
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Medical Representative or Sales Representative in the
Pharmaceutical or Derma-Cosmetic sector.
• Proven track record of achieving sales targets.
• Experience with skincare or OTC products is a strong advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
• Storytelling Ability: Able to articulate the brand's history from 1956 to the present day to build value.
• Sales Acumen: Strong negotiation and closing skills.
• Self-Starter: Ability to plan a daily route and work with minimal supervision.
• Tech Savvy: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
Other:
• Valid Driver’s License and willingness to travel within the assigned territory.
