As you may be aware Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority (TIRA) has developed a portal called the Tanzania Imports Insurance Portal (TIIP) in collaboration with TRA and other Government bodies, TPA and others.

The above Portal has been developed following the recent amendments in the Insurance Act of Tanzania whereby Insurance of all imports into Tanzania w.e.f 1-1-2018, whether by Sea / Air / Rail or Road is mandatorily to be arranged through an Insurer registered and operating in Tanzania. The Portal TIIP is now in place and fully operational w.e.f 1st January, 2018 and has been developed solely to monitor & control the insurances of all Exports/ Imports into the country. The Insurance companies are required to feed the data in the TIIP Portal , for all Export / Import Insurance transaction on a daily basis.

We understand that effective from 1st January 2018, Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) is not giving Import clearance for any shipments entering Tanzania unless there is evidence of the Marine Insurance Certificate issued by any Tanzania based Insurance Company. We recommend you insured your cargo immediately on completion of purchase process on cost freight and 10% landing charges (value to be on CFR or CFR+10% Landing Charges) basis. Clauses ICCA. This way you will not only meet the statutory requirements but also have risks covered.
