Agroforestry spices production in Tanzania : where I products come from 🌱 🌍

In one picture you can see 5 different crops growing in a tropical garden of one of our spice producers in Uluguru mountains in Tanzania :
- Clove tree
- Cardamom
- Ceylon cinnamon
- Vanilla
- Banana for home consumption

Agroforestry is a land use management system in which trees or shrubs are grown around or among crops. This intentional combination of agriculture and forestry has multiple benefits, such as greatly enhanced yields from staple food crops, enhanced farmer livelihoods from income generation, increased biodiversity, improved soil structure and health, reduced erosion, and improve carbon sequestration

Biomes Organic is commited to offer naturally grown, organic certified spices with full tracebility to the global market and to support Tanzanian producers on the groundlevel in this difficult access mountainous areas.

Organic cinnamon chips freshly harvested by our small holders and naturally drying in Tanzanian mountains 🌄

Did you know that Ceylon cinnamon, called "true" cinnamon thrives in Tanzanian environment ? It is a different cinnamon than cassia, with more flavors and sugary taste. It has also less coumarin content which can be damageable for health.

Biomes Organic ensures fair trade conditions for farmers, material support and full traceability in difficult access area to supply high quality and sustainable products on the organic market.

Last week we organized a river cleaning day with our spices producers in Uluguru mountains 🙌🏿🌍. Tanzania has an astonishing environment that needs to be carefully protected : in remote areas with difficult access where our organic spices are produced,  plastic waste management is not well established.
Building awareness on this topic is part of our mission and is what organic and sustainable practices means for our supply chain.
Thank you to the whole team and inhabitants for their great job and motivation !

🎉 Biomes Organic has now opened a European based company in France, Biomes Organic SAS, which will import our organic spices into European Union and value Tanzanian small scale producers work with direct distribution 🎉

It is an important step taken forward for us :

- Tanzanian project holder Jitendra Barot (JB) and its team are shareholder of this company to share the value with Tanzanian farmers and invest in sustainable and organic practices in the supply chain 🌱

- It will allow client to order smaller quantities according to their needs and facilitate their logistics 🚛

- Instead of big corporates investing in African countries to get more value addition as we often see it, Biomes Organic allows the ground level to get involved in EU distribution with no middlemen. It gives a better income for producers, transparency, quality responsability and fair prices also for clients 🤝

- Organic and fair practices should not generate unrealistic market prices for final consumers as they are the sustainable way to produce food and protect the environment. Distribution channels deserve to be re-thinked though as we see more questions raised by global warming pressuring rawmaterial supplies 🤨

Biomes Organic proudly supports and thanks the team members for their work efficiency and commitment to Tanzanian farmers to allow our organic spices project to make a change for Tanzanian people and their families.

We also want to bring the light on the ones who are often hardworking in the shadow : Tanzanian single mothers ! They have to sustain their family, support their parents, take care of the kids and be commited to their work. It is a super hero job every day !

As a company and individuals, we priorize single mother employment. Women can be left alone with small kids and no resources in Tanzania. It is a social responsability comitment but mostly a common sense decision as this women are smart, hardworking, commited to Tanzanian organic supply chain management and farmers training and they deserve to be recognized and supported.

Among our team members :
- Husna Ramdahn Saleh, in charge of supplies and traceability, single mother of two baby girls, being the only financial support for her family.
- Zenah Katibu, in charge of farmers training and traceability, single mother of two boys, also only financial support for her family. Biomes contributes to her family education
- Nurjannat Chande, supplies superviser, single mother of a baby boy.

Sharing the encoutered stakes from small scale spice producers fields in Uluguru mountains to our EU based company in France starting importing is a great way to ensure perfect traceability and quality insurance from farm to fork.

Culture melting pot, team spirit, work efficiency and friendship makes us move forward on our mission : Tanzanian empowerment, nature preservation and products quality and safety for consumers
