The common question we hear when discussing future testing is how the workflow can be organized. Sharing our own experience, we can offer the following:

1. Work by sprints. There is a time for testing at the end of each sprint (1 or 2 days) when the team verifies new functionality and runs regression testing of the previously implemented features.
2. At the end of the development process, the build is passed for testing. The QA team checks it, provides reports, and performs regression testing after the bug fixing.

When is it better to use manual testing? We can name at least 3 cases.
1. For physical interfaces. The Internet of Things (IoT), fitness trackers, health monitors, media players, and voice-activated devices have deeply rooted in our daily life. It’s difficult to simulate such interaction with automated test scripts. Thus, any manual manipulation should be tested manually by real people.

2. Media testing. Each social media platform has its parameters and formats that best work for your media content. Can such compatibility be verified with automation testing? Well, yes. To some extent. But do not forget that the human eye is the most efficient visual processor.

3. Early product stage. Introducing automation testing in the initial phase of the SDLC may probably double the engineering cost to areas that will inevitably change as you receive feedback from customers and enhancement ideas from your team. It will be quite expensive to maintain the automation suite up-to-date.

Manual and automation testing for Fintech? Easily. Here is an example of our practical experience.

TASK: It was necessary to implement full-scale user stories in the form of end-to-end autotests, manually test the updated functionality, and check with numerous external services of an online service for short-term and personal loans.

HOW: Two QA engineers from our team were dedicated to work on the project focusing on automated testing of both front-end and back-end parts. Considering changes in the functionality and business logic, we have implemented the missing part of test cases and partially updated the existing ones. To ensure flawless product operation, we have performed exploratory security testing and run manual regression testing after necessary fixes.

ENVIRONMENT: Java, Selenide, JUnit, Cucumber.
