Film screening and lecture by , Center for Spatial Technologies, at the Institute of Slavic and Eastern European Studies, University of Zurich .isos .
The event presents research behind Church, Chora, Chersonese, a two-screen video installation by the Center for Spatial Technologies. The work traces how archaeology at Chersonese has been conscripted for political ends from the late 1700s to Russia’s present occupation of Crimea.
Drawing on maps, excavation plans, wartime reconnaissance photographs, newsreels, and contemporary footage, the project follows three spatial protagonists: Church, Chora, and Chersonese, examining how military power, sacred architecture, and heritage have been repeatedly brought together to support territorial claims.
