Light industry of Ukraine
According to international experts, the Ukrainian light industry has a huge potential. There are more than 2.3 thousand light industry enterprises in the state.
An interesting fact is that only 1% of the total number of industries are state-owned, all the rest are private property. And even among this sector, small and medium-sized businesses significantly prevail in number over large companies. That is, such small enterprises are the driving force of the entire industry, developing the market and pro-moting Ukrainian brands every day.
The light industry of Ukraine is gradually increasing its capacity and its indicators have been steadily growing for several years in a row. Textile, sewing, knitwear, leather and footwear, leather goods, fur and other spheres are actively developing in the country.
In 2020, clothing production accounted for about 40% of the total number of prod-ucts sold, textile production - 37%, leather and footwear production - more than 20%.
Ukrainian light industry products are exported to 150 countries. The main export items are textiles and textile products - 68.2% (171.5 million dollars), hats and foot-wear, fur and leather products - 31.8% (80 million dollars). More than 83% of all products are supplied to the countries of the European Union.
More than 15 well-known western brands sew clothes and footwear in Ukraine, in-cluding such giants as Adidas, Benetton, Esprit, Hugo Boss, Zara, Mexx, Marks & Spencer, Next, s. Oliver, Triumph, Tommy Hilfiger.
Most of all, tons are exported from the country:
- Outerwear
- Suits
- Pants
- Skirts
- Shoes
- Leather products
- Fur
- Skins
- Socks
- Linens
Pros:
Geographic proximity compared to Asian manufacturers, the existing infrastructure in the form of factories, built in Soviet times, a good qualification of workers. But the main argument is the salary, which after the devaluation of the hryvnia in 2014–2015 remains the lowest in Europe.
Minuses:
However, despite the revival of the industry, a number of problems still remain in this area. In particular, these are not entirely equal conditions of competition in the do-mestic market, a limited choice of raw materials, a shortage of personnel with the nec-essary qualifications to carry out foreign economic activity.
Conclusion:
Despite the existing disadvantages, Ukrainian light industry enterprises remain at-tractive to European partners.
All parties can benefit from this cooperation, the main thing from the whole variety of manufacturers is not to make a mistake when choosing a supplier.
