MANAGEMENT OF LAYING HENS
It is just as important to feed laying chicken well for eggs and to breed well. Birds do best when given plenty of space to forage in. At all times there should be abundant clean water available to the hens.
During cold weather increase the energy content of the feed by adding carbohydrates to the normal ration. As the weather grows colder larger quantities of energy are used to maintain the body heat. Egg production can continue without interruption even during extremely cold weather if the hens are fed well.
Plenty of shade should be provided during hot weather and the houses kept as open as possible so as to be cool and comfortable for roosting. Reduce the energy content of the feed by reducing the amount of carbohydrates in the ration.
Hens that are molting should be fed well but should not get a ration too rich in protein because they are not laying. They do better when given a ration richer than usual in energy content. By proper management, many good laying hens can lay an occasional egg even while going through the molting.
Hens that have stopped laying should be culled out and managed differently from the rest of the flock. A layers ration and reduced exercise can start them laying again. Those that do not go back to laying within a reasonable time or lay for only a few weeks and then stop should be sold.

Common Causes Of Miscarriage In Goats
Most goat herds can generally suffer up to a 5% abortion rate without cause for serious worry but if you start to notice that the percentage of miscarriages in your herd has escalated above this level then it may well be time to start taking action.
There are 3 major causes of goat miscarriage that, as well as being fatal to the foetus, can also be extremely detrimental to the health of the doe and can have lasting consequences if not treated appropriately.
Campylobacter (Vibrio)
This unpleasant infection is orally transmitted via infected faeces and is highly contagious to both goats and humans. The doe will generally miscarry in the last 6 weeks to a month before her due date and the kid will more than likely be stillborn or very, very weak. Once ingested, the organism will work its way along the intestinal tract towards the uterus and, subsequently, the foetus. It will, in turn, cause the foetus’s body cavities to fill with fluid and eventually cause the foetus to abort. Mum will also be severely affected by diarrhoea, a vaginal discharge, possible depression, a uterine infection and a retained placenta.
To help prevent further spreading of the infection ensure that the herd’s water source is clean and away from any possible cause of infection, remove all material discarded after birthing such as the placenta, even in healthy goats, and provide an antibiotic treatment programme for the entire herd.

Chlamydia
Chlamydia is spread through the faeces of infected birds and bloodsucking insects or parasites such as ticks. The kid will be aborted around 3 weeks before the due date and will more than likely be either stillborn or extremely weak. Once the bacteria enters the doe’s bloodstream it attacks the placenta, causing it to inflame, and preventing the foetus from receiving the sustenance and nutrients required for development. Around 3 days before the miscarriage the doe will exhibit a bloody, vaginal discharge and after she has aborted she will have a discharge which then contains the Chlamydia infection and will most certainly need treatment to prevent loss in further pregnancies as well as the spreading of the infection.

Toxoplasmosis
This is an incredibly dangerous disease which can also have the same outcome for a pregnant human female as it does the goat and is caused by ingesting anything that is contaminated by the faeces of a cat carrying T. gondii. The bacteria makes it’s way to the placenta of a pregnant goat where it will multiply and then be passed on to the foetus. This can result in still birth, the birth of very weak kids or even mummification of the foetus. The doe can also suffer some terrible side effects including muscle spasms, respiratory problems, gastroenteritis, jaundice and even inflammation of the brain.
It’s also well worth investing in ultrasound equipment so that you have a chance to detect these infections before they get out of hand. It may not be possible to save the infected foetus of even the doe but you can take steps to protect the rest of the herd and hopefully take the appropriate action before any further infection sets in.

Miscarriage & Aborting – in Goats
Sometimes, no matter how much care we give to a doe, she may miscarry or abort.
I have heard it said that it is common for goats to miscarry. This is not true. There is always a reason that causes the doe to miscarry, or abort, and there is a lot we can do to prevent it; such as providing good holistic health care, proper feed and housing, and good prenatal care. Though, sometimes abortions do happen and there may have been nothing you could have done to prevent it. There is not always an obvious explanation for why a doe miscarries.
The following are some things that could cause a goat to miscarry or abort:
· Injury- Getting rammed/slammed by another goat causes miscarriages much more often than people think.
· Moldy Hay or Feed
· Incorrect use of medications or herbs
· Pregnancy Toxemia
· Stress
· Malformed fetus
· Infections such as:
o Chlamydia or "Pink eye" is a major cause of miscarriages.
o Toxoplasma - a coccidia found in cat f***s.
o Salmonella
o Mycoplasma
o John's disease
o Listeria
Symptoms of impending miscarriage depends on the cause
Symptoms that the doe has aborted may be quite obvious, or not so obvious; again, it depends no the reason for the miscarriage. We had had miscarriages where all we ever saw was a bit of blood on the tail. The doe exhibited no other signs or symptoms of anything being wrong, and the doe never seemed to be in distress of any sort. These abortions, we believe, were caused by the doe getting rammed by a herdmate.
If we have no idea why a doe aborted, we find that it's good practice to give her a course of Immune Support Tincture and keep a very close eye on her for at least a week. The others, we are pretty sure, were caused by the doe getting rammed by another doe.
If the doe miscarries, she may or may not go back into heat that season. With the few miscarriages we have had, the doe did not go back into heat until the regular breeding season the following Fall.
When a doe does abort, be especially kind to her because she can get quite depressed (just like a human would if they lost their child).
You may find it comforting to know that does that abort can go on to have full term pregnancies the following years with no problems at all.
Milk Fever
(Hypocalcaemia)
Milk fever is a misnomer. It is not a fever, and doesn't always have to do with milk production. It is actually low blood calcium, which is known as hypocalcaemia. The goat may have plenty of calcium in her bones and in the diet, but due to a sudden increase in calcium and phosphorus requirements (due to impending kidding or lactation) she is unable to reabsorb the calcium she needs from her bones or absorb it from her diet.
It is important to note that hypocalcaemia is not only relative in immediate pre/post kidding situations. Many people think it can happen only to heavy milkers right before or right after kidding. This is not the case. Milk fever runs in heavy milk lines, but the doe dose not have to be in heavy milk, or milking at all, to come down with milk fever.
Treatment:
Calcium Gluconate 23% Solution: 8 to 12 oz. given orally. Repeat 5-8 oz, three times a day until the doe is eating and symptoms are subsiding

HOW TO HARVEST MONEY FROM LOCAL CHICKEN
Start with 20 chicken in January 2018. End year with over 300 Local chicken!!!
For those seeking info on local hens, here is my personal analysis, from personal experience.
If you started with 20 hens. At the end of the year you can easily have 300+ chickens. If you put your effort to it! This is how:
Buy 20 hens that are ready to lay and 3 mature c***s. Always keep the ratio of males to females at 1 c**k to 7-10 females for fertilization purposes. That way you're sure your eggs are fertilized.
Month 1, they lay.
Month two they hatch.
Month 3 they rear their chicks. Once the chicks are one month old, they don't need their mothers for warmth. So withdraw the mother when the chicks are one month old (at the end of calendar month 3) and rear the chicks yourself till they are 2.5 months old before you let them on their own (free range)! This is meant to force the hen to start laying again. We doing business not letting nature take it course! Come on.
Month 4, the hens take what we call a "Laying break" to adopt to not having their chicks!
Month 5, the hens start to lay again.
Month 6, they hatch again.
Month 7, they rear the chicks (process repeats itself)! Withdraw the mother at the end of month 7.
Month 8, they are on the laying break.
Month 9 they lay again.
Month 10 they hatch.
Month 11, they rear. Withdraw mother at end of month 11.
Month 12, they take the break, waiting for month 1 of the next year to start over again.
A few things to note:
1. You can only practically do this up to 5 times for one hen before it's "tired"!
2. For every cycle, if you stay strict to the process, you get a week accrued for every hatching cycle because hens hatch after 21 days and in the post, I assumed a month for that. So you might squeeze a one month for the hens.
3. Put 8 eggs for every hen to hatch. In most cases, they'll hatch the entire 8 eggs, and for the poor hatchers, they'll hatch 7. Don't be too greedy. 8 has a good chance of hatching them all, as opposed to doing 10+ and end up "spoiling" eggs!
4. If you take care of the chicks in a closed environment away from stray cats and other predators, you should have 5 mature hens for every hatch-cycle, per hen.
5. If you manage to get 5 hens for the 8 eggs hatched and you had 20 hens, you'll have 100 new hens for the first cycle. There are three cycles for every hen per year. That's a good 300 news hens. Plus your local 20 hens, you have 320. Let's just say 300 for the sake of it.
6. By the way, by the time the hen is hatching for the third time in the year, the first batch of chicks will already be hatching too. NIIICE!
7. Assuming 50/50 for c***s and " layers"! So you have 150 c***s, and 150 layers!
8. If you sell 100 mature at the market, it's waaaay better than trying to win the "Lotto con-game, sports betting, vending yourself
In all this, you gotta put your mind, effort, money and most importantly, time to it. Don't look at the work right now, look at the end product.
And another one btw, one local hen lays 15-18 eggs before wanting to hatch again, if well taken care of that is. Let's say 15 eggs, give it 8 eggs to hatch and sell the other 7 eggs x 20 hens x 300/= per egg, that's some 42,000/= ugx to buy yaka tokens.
Always make sure you give the chickens the "newest" eggs for hatching. Eggs 15 days old have a 20% chance to hatch, 12 day old eggs have a 30% hatch rate. Eggs 10 days old have a 50% hatch chance. If it is 7 days, it shoots to 80%. Less than 7 days have a 90+% chance to hatch unless conditions like temperature and humidity fluctuate.
After hens hatch 5 times, sell them and rear the newer ones, they are rendered salvage, they don't lay that much. For those with bigger spaces, do paddocks for easier identification of ages for sale. Always maintain your "floor stock" at 300 hens and 50 c***s for easier management and space.
With this, you'll find out that you're collecting 200 eggs every day X 30 days = 6000 eggs less 2500 for hatching, you sell 3500 eggs every 4 months. That's 1,050,000/= ugx in 4 months. Sell 500 hens 250 c***s and 250 layers, at an average worst price of local 20,000/= ugx , and that is 10,000,000 per year. /= ugx Plus returns from eggs 55 X 3 cycles totals 14,525,000/= ugx a year. Locals only take about 20-25% of budget. Say 25%. Pocket the rest 10,885,000/= ugx Average 875,000/= a month and you don't wake up at 5 to go to work to come back home at 10 PM. More time for family. A balanced diet for your family. Well, this is theory. The practicals have much more fun and some hardships. But it's fun doing locals. And the money is tax free. Unless you feel charitable enough to give to the government. Lol. Make it a side hustle and it'll turn full time.
MOST IMPORTANTLY: FEED them, WATER them, VACCINATE them, and give them MEDICATION at first sight of symptoms of illness. I can't stress that enough. Have fun farming people!!!

SUCCESS ADVICE: 6 Reasons Why You Will Never Become Financially Free
Many people want to be financially independent to do whatever they want, whenever they want with whomever they want but only a few of them become so.
So if you are one of them, let me give you 6 reasons why you are still not financially independent.
#1 You think it’s impossible
I spoke with many people about financial independence and each one of them completely agrees on the fact that financial independence is great.
Not worrying about money, travelling wherever we want, buying whatever we want without feeling guilty…is something many people want but only a few of them will ever achieve simply because they will tell themselves:
“Stop dreaming! That’s not going to happen, that’s too good to be true…”
Which boils down to:
“That’s impossible”
That belief is what prevents most people from ever reaching financial independence because if they believe something is impossible they won’t take any action. They won’t read any book about finance, they won’t attend seminars, they won’t interview people who are already financially independent, which is necessary to become financially independent.
#2 You don’t have any plan
If you say that one day you’ll be financially independent make sure you have a plan. Having a strong desire to get something is not enough, you need to implement strategies otherwise that’s just dreaming.
So can you tell me what is your plan for the next 5 years? What will you implement exactly in the future to reach your financial independence?
If you can’t answer both questions, finish reading this article and start writing down your plan. I don’t want you to procrastinate! If you tell me that you’ll make it tomorrow you won’t do it. So start making a plan and stick to it!
See also: Reach any goal with that simple trick
#3 You spend all your pay immediately
Don’t be like 80% of people; pay yourself first! That’s the rule n°1. No matter what you’ve read so far about wealth creation or financial independence saving money must be your priority.
So what do I mean by paying yourself first? “Paying yourself first means that every time you get any income you want to immediately put 10% of your money aside (on another account for example). Before paying any rent, any taxes, any loan, food, clothes…”
#4 You take advice
This point is also really important. A lot of people who want to become financially independent take advice from other people around them. That’s a big mistake so if you do it, stop it now.
When you take advice from your friends, family, colleagues…you won’t get any benefits, unless they achieved what you want. The only thing they will give you is thousands of reasons not to invest, not to undertake, not to do this or that. They will hold you back with their fears and expectations.
Only take advice from people who already have the result you want to get!
#5 You don’t make sacrifices
We tend to think that financial independence is something that we will get with time and patience. Time and patience are necessary of course but a lot of efforts are required too.
You need to make some sacrifices! I know when you come back from work or school you’re tired and the only thing you want is lay down on your sofa and watch TV, go on Facebook or watch videos of cute cats on Internet.
If you want to be financially independent forget all of that and read books and watch educational videos about what you want to achieve for example.
You need to get your head right if you want to create wealth. That’s a part of the sacrifices you need to make.
With time you’ll see that you will enjoy it. Reading books will be almost like seeing money coming in into your bank account. But if you notice that after reading 1 or 2 books you don’t enjoy the time you spend getting educated on that topic, you should forget about becoming wealthy. Because what’s the point of becoming financially independent if you don’t like the process involved?
#6 You are not grateful
You need to recognize the wealth you already have. Be grateful for being alive, for having a family, friends…if you are not, financial independence will bring you nothing. Don’t think that money will bring you happiness. If you don’t see the beauty in your life today, you won’t see it tomorrow with $1billion

Some Reasons You will never get out of debt.
1. You Don’t Want to Use a Budget
So you think doing a written budget is not for you? After all, you’re not a numbers person and budgets are just confusing! Never mind that there is no way to know where all the money goes unless you’re keeping track.
So how do you plan on eliminating debt if you don’t know where you’re money is going?
: Seriously, you must to have a plan if you want to succeed at getting out of debt.
It’s only third grade math- you can do it! Otherwise, you will keep wondering where all the money goes and you will never get out of debt!
2. You Want a Quick Fix
We’ve all gotten used to the mentality that we can have whatever we want right now. In a world of fast food, movies on demand, and two hour deliveries, we think everything should happen more quickly than it should sometimes.
But when it comes to debt, it takes time to make a plan and pay it off for good.
Sometimes it takes months, sometimes years.
But if you want a quick fix to your problems, you will never get out of debt because you have an unrealistic expectation of how much time it takes to get the job done.
: Learn to be patient and take it one step at a time until you achieve your debt free goal.
3. You’re Not Willing to Sacrifice if You Need to
Changing your ways financially usually requires some sacrifice on your part. You may have to cut back in some areas of your life for a while so you can work on fixing your finances.
You may have to sacrifice some things you’ve grown accustomed to such as eating out 5 nights a week or expensive entertainment options.
: Changing behavior means you have to start doing things differently. You will be surprised that when you make sacrifices to form new habits, they quickly become as normal as the old habits once were. To be successful, you have to make the necessary sacrifices.
4. You’re Not Willing to Admit to Mistakes
One problem that I see often is the unwillingness to admit to financial mistakes. Many people come to me for advice on how to fix their particular problem, but they don’t want to admit that what they’ve been doing is stupid. So they continue making the same mistakes and getting the same results.
Solution: When you make a financial mistake, own up to it and make sure you don’t do it again. Making the same mistakes over and over means you’re just not trying.
5. You’re Not Willing to Tell the Truth
Sometimes people are not willing to tell the whole truth about their finances. You have to be willing to lay it all out on the table and deal with the consequences.
It can be hard to admit to yourself (or your spouse) that things are out of control financially.
Maybe it’s a secret credit card you’ve been hiding from your spouse.
Or a lack of self-control or spending addiction you haven’t been willing to confront.
Maybe it’s just a lack of motivation (laziness). Whatever the problem may be, you have to be truthful if you want to solve your financial problems for good.
: Tell the truth and let the chips fall where they may. You’ll never get out of debt by deceiving yourself and others.
6. You’re Not Willing to Listen
It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who seek help with finances, but never do anything with the advice they get. I’ve spent hours talking to, emailing, and meeting with people who never take the advice they are given, and are still in the same terrible financial situation years later.
This happens because the vast majority of people aren’t truly willing to listen to someone that’s been in their position and done what it takes to fix it.
: The few who are willing to listen to the hard truth and implement it are the ones who succeed. You’ll never get out of debt if you’re not willing to listen to others who have experienced what you’re going through. Listen to people who know what they’re talking about.
7. You Have a Short Term Mentality
Feeling relieved because you just got paid, or nauseous because it’s three days ‘till payday is no way to live.
You have to develop a long term view of your finances if you want to achieve financial independence. Learn to look ahead months, years, or even decades into the future and envision what you want your life to look like then.
Solution: Making a solid financial plan using a monthly budget and yearly goals helps you think long term. A great plan eliminates the daily (or weekly) frustrations that result from flying by the seat of your pants.
8. You Want to Play the Blame Game
Too many people want to place external blame on an internal problem. You’re not living paycheck to paycheck because of the President, the economy, or who’s in Congress.
You’re not behind on the credit cards because the big banks are out to get you. If you have the typical consumer debt that most people have, you’re in debt because of your own choices.
: Educate yourself and take responsibility for your finances because you are the one that is ultimately responsible for your financial well-being.
How to Move Forward Financially
I realize that some of the points in this article may seem a bit harsh at first glance. Honestly, they were meant to be.
It’s far too easy to fool yourself into believing that debt is just inevitable or that the debt you have is not your fault.
Sticking your head in the sand just doesn’t work.
Believe me, I’ve tried it.
At some point you have to take total responsibility for your finances if you ever want to succeed financially. You’ll never get out of debt by living in denial.
So if any of these 10 reasons hit home with you, reevaluate your thinking and your actions with money so you can move forward financially.
You’ll be glad you did!

Money and Love! Why Your Girlfriend is Making You Broke.
Being in a relationship may enrich your life, but it's definitely doing no favors for you if you are overspending on someone who acts unforgiving and before you will know it all you will be broke and she will leave you.
Most girls today fancy rich guys where all they have to bring in a relationship is s*x and nothing more, such type of girls will jump from one man to another having drained the former or as soon as they realize that the guy has become tighter with their money spent on them.
Let’s face the fact here, what type of man really like a woman whose only role is bedtime games with nothing else offered to sustain a relationship? My brother if you are newly dating and she cannot even make a simple glass of juice for you, always complaining or have everlasting excuses not to talk about your future plans, it is time to quit before it is too late.
Now is the right time to find out where you're spending the most money on your girl and plug those holes ASAP if you want to be happier again and if she is authentic and loves you she will stay and if she is just a slay queen with not morals you will be better off alone till you find someone else who will understand you and help you grow and the next time you get involved you will know where to limit and what to look out for than spending to be loved which in most cases do not work out well.
How To Tell You Are Overspending On Her
1. She Often Wants to eat Out and outings are her favorite moments
If you are not yet staying together, it is likely that every time you meet you have to first go eat out and to make her spend a night at your place you have to impress her with a very good outing with expensive snacks and foods value. They usually want to hang out in different places where you will spend almost half of your monthly income and if this is done weekly that means you will definitely be in debt by the end of the month.
How to handle this: Limit the Nights Out
You can cut costs on this by opting for nights in. Reduce the number of nights you actually have to go out. Staying in is more affordable and you can invite other couples to spice up the night. Get a movie, cook some snacks, and buy a bottle of wine. You do not have to pay for the movies and cooking at home is far much cheaper. Keep your love and money.
2. She Wants Presents
Giving a present is one way of appreciating your girlfriend or celebrating a given event with her. This is not about going all the way to get her a rare jewel that will cost you millions; it is about the simple presents that will have meaning to just the two of you.
It starts with her birthday, soon its valentines, your anniversary, and its Christmas. These events are compulsory so you still have not added the other gifts you present as surprises.
How to handle this: Save on Presents
The trick here is to save on presents, which you can approach in two ways. First, you can opt to save funds to address her presents and avoid using your savings. If this is impossible, it is time to negotiate a present limit with her. Rather than go out and get a bouquet of flowers, get her one. If she cares about you, she will appreciate your effort just as much.
3. She calls you often
Another way your girlfriend will increase your expenditure is by always calling you and texting you. This seems unrelated but in order for you to feel man enough you have to reciprocate the act so that she does not feel alone in this making you subscribe to either daily calls plans or monthly unlimited calls plans there by spending more than what you actually budgeted in the first place and if not done in calculated way you might end up exhausting the plan before the end of the month and re-subscribing for another putting in mind that even the telecom companies do not actually give unlimited calls but limit the plans to a specific number of minutes.
4. She Wants to Get Away
This is not very common with African women but as you know we are copying from the western world it is on high increase now where she will ask you to blow almost all your savings on a trip to a faraway park, to an executive hotel somewhere she read about or a friend recommended, to an island somewhere in the ocean and this involves a lot of spending from air tickets if to be involved to accommodation and stuff that can sweep your savings clean yet she might even want such activities more often a year than done once in a while.
How to handle this: Save for your Getaways
Getaways are a great idea but it is advisable that you actually save for it too rather than get the funding from your initial savings. Analyze the required mount and save more than you speculated to ensure nothing.
Conclusion
Love and money can be hard to balance. Be cautious of spending too much in the beginning, as it will set the tone for the rest of your relationship. There are many ways to have great experiences without spending the bank. So that when the time comes to pull out the red carpet, you can really show her a good time!
