Evaluating with young children demands a creative approach! WINDs consultant enjoyed working together with staff, volunteers and young beneficiaries of Nyumba ya Watoto and Arbejdsgruppen for Leg og Læring during the evaluation of a CISU - Civilsamfund i Udvikling funded project in Bukoba, Tanzania.

Haven’t you done anything but playing today? Nyumba ya Watoto, a childrens house in Bukoba, Tanzania aim to challenge negative stereotypes that downplays the role of play in the lives of children and bring back play on the educational agenda!

The Nyumba ya Watoto, Children's House is a creative and experimental heaven, where children can come and play. The children are challenged in terms of age and mental development. They are in the children's house about 2 hours at a time, where they are in an educational and creative environment. They learn to wonder, experiment, make mistakes without negative consequences. As the COVID lockdown in Uganda has been partly lifted it is time to reflect, review and re-strategize our projects as we move forward. We have lost precious colleagues and time. We never thought about stating worldwide pandemic as a risk factor in our Lock Frames…. However, we have not lost our drive - it is now time for learning and adjusting!

The evaluation of Karamoja Indigenous and Modern Health Collaboration Project Kimhecop 2018-2021 took place in February 2021 in the midst of General Elections in Uganda. The project was implemented by KIMHECOP, an indigenous NGO in partnership with Ulandsforeningen Diálogos, a Danish development NGO and funded by CISU - Civilsamfund i Udvikling, a Danish civil society fund.
