Probing:
During data collection, whether for qualitative or quantitative research, probing for more information is an important aspect enumerators use to get clarity, ensure consistence of responses and improve on quality of data collected. In addition, probing is a way of enabling respondents to open up and feel free to answer without restrictions.
There are two types of probing; direct, where the interviewer gives a direction on where the respondent should provide more information and indirect where the interviewer leaves the respondent to wander without direction of response.
