*GOVERNMENT CAN TAKE OVER YOUR LAND!*
Yes it can. The law in question is from the Constitution of Uganda, under Article 26.
🤝This law says that if Government wants to take over someone's land, the process is that the Government and the private person should first reach an agreement about the price and other compensation before the land is taken over.
🤝In simple terms, this means Government cannot take over a person's can unless there has been an agreement between the land owner and the government.
🤝Under the new law, it says that where the Government and the land owner fail to reach an agreement, the Government can still take over the land after depositing the market value of the land.
🤝If the land owner is not happy with the compensation, this land owner can go to Court to ask for a more favorable amount but this does not stop government from taking over the land.
🤔 *RATIONALE*
🤔Government says that many a time, certain government projects e.g road construction are delayed because of delays in reaching agreements with land owners.
🤔It also claims that many times, people ask for very high amounts of compensation which makes government projects very expensive.
