In Uganda currently tomato Farmers are facing alot of challenges but mostly poor tomato varieties on market and tomato diseases especially tomato bacterial wilt.
Bacterial wilt of tomato is caused by a soil borne bacterium(Ralstonia solanacearum). It's a widespread that affects solanaceous crops especially tomatoes causing huge economic losses to tomato Farmers since there's no chemical on Ugandan market currently that can be used to control/treat it in tomatoes. Tomato Farmers especially commercial Farmers are encouraged to plant tomato varieties that are tomato bacterial wilt tolerant and high yielding forexample Safa F1 and Ansal F1.
Safa F1 is an hybrid tomato variety with unique features
It's bacterial wilt tolerant, early maturing, oval in shape, high yielding variety with a long shelf life.
50g of Safa F1 can plant one acre.
Tomato Farmers should always plant bacterial wilt tolerant tomato varieties accompanied with good agronomic practices in order to have a big harvest.

SOIL CONDITIONERS
Poor soil can describe arange of conditions. It can be compacted, hard pan soil with excessively Sandy soil, dead and nutrients depleted soil. Poor or bad soils restrict the water and nutrient uptake by the plants and also restricting the root development causing the plants to yellow, wilt and stunted. Fortunately poor soils can be amended with SOIL CONDITIONERS.
A soil conditioner is any material added to the soil to improve it's soil structure by increasing aeration, water holding capacity and nutrients. Soil conditioners loosen up compacted, hard pan clay soils and release locked up nutrients.
Soil conditioners are different from fertilizers, both add nutrients but the fertilizers can not improve the soil structure and when fertilizers are added to compacted soil they may not fail to release nutrients and thus leading to leaching of nutrients to underground where the plant can not access them from. The soil conditioners can be organic or inorganic. In Uganda we only have few inorganic soil conditioners on market. The best and affordable soil conditioner on Ugandan market is called DESIDER, it's a soil conditioner with plant available silica manufactured by Bulemezi minerals, a sister company to Bulemezi agro vet.
Farmers should always be encouraged and start applying soil conditioners in their soils during planting for better yields and also for the scientific fact that soil conditioners on addition to the nutrients, they also improve the soil physical properties. TOMATO SAFA F1. During this time of covid19 where most businesses are not functioning, most Ugandans have decided to invest their money in farming especially tomato production. There are very many hybrid tomato varieties on the market with different attributes n therefore farmers must be selective when growing these varieties. Bacterial wilt disease currently the most limiting factor today in tomatoes n therefore farmers should choose tomatoe varieties that are resistant to bacterial wilt disease and at the same time high yielding. Currently SAFA F1 is the best bacterial wilt tolerant semi determinate variety on the Ugandan market.
Safa F1 is high yielding, semi determinate type hybrid with multiple disease tolerances
Yield potential is about 30-35tons under good Agronomic practices
It matures within 75 days after transplanting
Fruits are blocky oval in shape , deep red, medium sized fruits
Good shelf life of up to 3 weeks
Great flowering ability even in harsh conditions. So for more yields and profits tomato farmers should start growing Safa F1 due to it's tolerance to BWT and other good attributes.
For more information about the variety and how to get it from, contact our seed production agronomist Derick
