Recently I was privileged to represent the initiative and share my thoughts during the high-level policy dialogue on the relevance of a startup policy in Uganda. During the dialogue we discussed the barriers to an enabling stratup environment in Uganda, strides made by the government and start up ecosystem players as well as how the seeks to harness and contribute the building of a vibrant eco-system.

We hope that the dialogue will contribute to the generation of policy actions that can support startups in Uganda.

Businesses have had to endure many up's and down's as a result of COVID-19. Some of these include travel restrictions, staff lay-offs, plummeting financial markets, supply shortages and limitations on “non-essential” services.
As a result of this, businesses have to redefine key aspects such as consumer preferences, payment systems, delivery and distribution channels, the future of work/work of the future, research and development, among other core business processes.
Join us for our first digital dialogue under our RESTART! initiative with risk modelling experts as we discuss ways business can build more durable and sustainable processes.

10 things you can do during this lockdown

1)Read Books

Books are a perfect way to pass time during these COVID-19 times. I will just take a wild guess that you or someone in your house has a bookshelf that is stocked with books of different genres. You are free to pick a book of any genre. You can read biographies, personal development books or fiction. Depending on the size of the book, this book can keep you company for 3-30 days. At the end of this quarantine you should have gained some knowledge.

2)Learn a new skill

Some of you have a particular skill that you have always wanted to acquire. It might be Excel, playing a guitar, knitting, cooking, cleaning etc. This is the time that you can gain and sharpen your skill. The good thing is that working on gaining this skill might just also be distraction that you need to stop reading the fake news, and listening to the misinformation.

3)Spend time with your children

For those who have children, this is the time that you can spend time with them. The time that you get to know what is going on in their life. If the children are used to you not being around, it might not be easy for you. The first step might be building some trust, so that they can finally open to you. This will take time. It will require patience on your part. Secondly, now that you have bonded, when the lockdown is lifted, find ways to maintain this bond you have just re-established.

4)Spend time with your spouse

Married people I have good news and bad news. You will spend 24 hours daily together for the entire period that you are under the lockdown. This thought is terrifying for some and exciting for others. This means that you will have to find ways of spending quality time with your spouse. This will require that you both creatively find ways of how you are going to make your 17 hours filled with activity and fun. This must be done for the entire period that you will be at home. Without being intentional about creating quality time, this
