Garage Security
Garages present special challenges for security. Here are some tips for keeping your garage secure.

If you frost or cover your garage windows, burglars won't be able to tell if your car is gone.

Keep your garage door closed and locked even when your car is not in the garage.

Install a peephole in the door separating the house from the garage. If you hear suspicious sounds, you can check without opening the door.

Are you worried about someone entering your house through your attached garage? If the garage door lifts on a track, a C-clamp can provide extra security since the door cannot be opened if you tighten the C-clamp on the track next to the roller.

Securing Windows

Protect your windows with one or more good locks, an alarm system, burglar-resistant glass, or many small panes instead of one large area of glass.

When installing a window lock, drip some solder on the screw heads. It will stop a burglar from unscrewing the lock after cutting a small hole in the windowpane.

In the next section, we'll focus on the special steps to take to keep your home secure while you're away.

Securing Doors

To help burglar-proof your home, install 1-inch throw deadbolt locks on all exterior doors.

A door with too much space between the door and the frame is an invitation for the burglar to use a jimmy. Reinforce the door with a panel of 3/4-inch plywood or a piece of sheet metal.

If there are door hinges on the outside of your house, take down the door and reset the hinges inside. Otherwise all a thief has to do to gain entry to your home is knock out the hinge pin.

You can burglar-proof your glass patio doors by setting a pipe or metal bar in the middle bottom track of the door slide. The pipe should be the same length as the track.

While it's difficult to protect your home from professional thieves, most home burglaries are done by amateurs. These thieves are more easily thwarted if you employ some of these simple security precautions:

Plan to "burglarize" yourself. You'll discover any weaknesses in your security system that may have previously escaped your notice.

Lock up your home, even if you go out only for a short time. Many burglars just walk in through an unlocked door or window.

Change all the locks and tumblers when you move into a new house.

For the most effective alarm system, conceal all wiring. A professional burglar looks for places where he or she can disconnect the security system.

Your house should appear occupied at all times. Use timers to switch lights and radios on and off when you're not at home.

If you have a faulty alarm that frequently goes off, get it fixed immediately and tell your neighbors that it's been repaired. Many people ignore an alarm that goes off periodically.

A spring-latch lock is easy prey for burglars who are "loiding" experts. Loiding is the method of slipping a plastic credit card against the latch tongue to depress it and unlock the door. A deadbolt defies any such attack. It is only vulnerable when there is enough space between the door and its frame to allow an intruder to use power tools or a hacksaw.

If you lose your keys, change the locks immediately.

Before turning your house key over to a professional house cleaner for several hours, make sure the person is honest and reputable as well as hardworking. Check all references thoroughly. If the house cleaner is from a firm, call your local Better Business Bureau to check on the firm's reputation.

Instead of keeping a spare key in a mailbox, under the doormat, or on a nail behind the garage, wrap the key in foil -- or put it in a 35mm film can -- and bury it where you can easily find it if you need it.

Don't leave notes for service people or family members on the door. These act as a we

Personal Security Tips

The following simple tips, when put into practice, can reduce the opportunity for you becoming a crime victim.
Criminals are constantly surveying the environment for an opportunity to commit crimes. Thieves will look for a running vehicle, or an individual who leaves their valuables in the backseat of their vehicle.

Criminal opportunity is accomplished by a lack of witnesses, or the creation of an easy target. The probability of being detected influences a criminal's decision to commit a crime. Increasing witness potential is one way to reduce criminal opportunity, but being more observant and aware of surroundings is another proactive method of enhancing your security. Don't make it easy for the criminal to make you a victim!

Methods of reducing criminal opportunity:

Be alert and aware! While you are walking, keep your mind on what is going on around you. Knowing who is near is the first step to being secure. If someone makes you feel uncomfortable, move in the direction of other people.

Display confidence. Walk with purpose, scan the area around you and make casual eye contact with others to display confidence. This reduces your chances of being targeted by criminals. Don't wear shoes or clothing that restrict your movements.

Keep your hands free. Carrying items makes you a more vulnerable target for criminals. Backpacks should be worn on your back, keeping your arms and hands free. Avoid text messaging or lengthy cell phone use while walking alone. Be extra alert; know who and what are around you at all times.

Trust your instincts. If you have an intuitive feeling something is wrong, trust your instincts. React immediately and take action to reduce your risk. Many individuals suppress these feelings, because they fear their response will offend someone. React to your instincts and don't worry about someone else's feelings. If someone approaches you and you feel uncomfortable, move or ask for assistance. Call the Police immediatel

How the Tracking Device works.
GSM: The device uses the cellular GSM Network as a communication platform. GSM is a worldwide system and the device can be used in any country with GSM/GPRS enabled Network. The primary communication is via the Network GRPS data transfer capability.

SIM CARD: The device requires a GSM/GPRS/SMS/USSD data activated SIM Card. The card must be able to communicate directly via GPRS to the internet and the dedicated Tracking Data and Internet Server.
Once the Tracker is installed in the vehicle, the device will establish itself on a GSM network using the GPRS and will start collecting and sending data to our central server. The user then will be obliged to log onto our website where he or she will be prompted to enter a username and password to be able to view the reports generated by the Tracker unit as well as locating a vehicle’s position with status on the Tracker home Digital Maps or Google Maps.

The Tracking System Features.
Our Tracker system has different unique features which include the following.
Live Tracking: Live tracking enables a vehicle owner to see the location of the vehicle in real time. This is able to give you the speed at which the vehicle is moving and the direction course.
Geo-fence: This feature enables the vehicle owner to set the radius/virtual fence in which the vehicle should operate. In case of bleach of the fence, the owner is notified via the application and can choose the next course of action
Engine Immobilization: This feature enables one to remotely stop the engine. This command is sent from the application and cuts the fuel supply to the engine thus immobilizing the vehicle. The vehicle can’t be started unless a new command to start the engine is sent.
Playback History: With our tracking system installed in your vehicle, you will be able to see the different routes taken by your vehicle for any given period of time.
Disconnection Alarm: The system is able to detect and notify in-case of tampering of the tracking device installed in the vehicle.
Maximum Allowed Speed: The unit can prompt the user by sending an SMS or through the internet to a computer when the maximum allowed speed is being violated.

Vehicle Location in Real Time: Polling a vehicle in real time is possible.

Driver behavior: The unit can also generate reports about the driver productivity. Instances of excess Idling, harsh brakes, engine on and off will be displayed.

Trip reports: This can be created on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. A simple mouse click will allow you to identify the journey type, making tax claims possible and the allocation of costs easy. Start/Stop times are clearly indicated in the reports generated.

Trip details: These can be accessed to show speed graphs as well as acceleration and breaking trends. A monthly speed report can be drawn to display all events involving the vehicle exceeding a predefined speed. This report can be printed so a hard copy is available for filing or further action.

NO GSM COVERAGE:
In cases where GSM coverage is unavailable, the tracking device will be able to communicate with the satellite and will record all the trip details on its onboard computer and the information will be downloaded through the server as soon as the unit picks GSM network.

For commercial fleet owners, there are additional packages such as Fuel Monitoring which enables fleet owners to monitor the usage of fuel and give alerts in cases of fuel theft. Fuel control and management solution is designed to monitor, save and optimize fuel related costs. Information about fuel level and consumption is obtained in two ways – connecting GPS tracker to on-board computer (CANbus) or installing fuel level sensor directly in the fuel tank.
This solution generates detailed reports will identify drivers who waste company fuel and vehicles that use too much fuel. It also shows when fuel tank was filled and when fuel theft is being done. In case of fuel theft a warning email or SMS is sent to the responsible persons.
